I’ve been to a couple events recently where there were cakes that looked really cool. (Imagine cakes that look like a car, a typewriter, the Disneyland castle) It seems to be a trend to make these cakes covered in heavy fondant that don’t look like cakes. Unfortunately every single one of these cakes I tried, tasted HORRIBLE. They were dry, heavy, flavorless. All the attention goes to appearance and to have these cakes hold their shape they can’t be soft and moist. Basically, they’re cakes that aren’t really cakes.

Alicia McLeod. The guests are “footing the bill.” In most cases they have given up one of their days, gotten clothes, maybe got a babysitter, maybe travelled, and bought a present. A wedding where there is no respect for the guests sucks. I’ve been to a few and people aren’t happy about it.

The florist used the white to resemble clouds for the planes, which was creative and beautiful, and then spraying them purple took away the sky theme and made it more prom-like. I can only imagine smelling the bouquet and smelling paint chemicals. 😵‍💫

I think the problem is that houses are getting smaller so a lot of people can't accommodate a hundred people in their backyard- if they have a backyard. But yes the most expensive part of a wedding is the catering. My friend is ordering in pizza for her wedding (gourmet pizza, not Pizza Hut) and then having the cake and fruit for dessert. Saving so much money compared with a venue at $100 a head or something

Honest question...why aren't the bridesmaids on this show paying for their own dresses? Any wedding I've been invited to or in the bridesmaids have always paid 100% or 80%. I can't get with the plane stuff it's just too much & $20 for a little plane, get one at the dollar store. Just as tacky. I understand budget means a ton but some times to do have to spend for quality.

depends on the wedding. It's traditional for a bride to buy the maids a gift and sometimes it's the dress. I think if the bride is picking the dress then it's fair that she pays, as the bridesmaids may not want the dress afterwards or it might not be in their budget. If there are only a few bridesmaids and they all agree on a dress and a budget, or the bride says "pick whatever dress you want for yourself in this colour" then I get that the bridesmaids might pay.

It was a pretty wedding but if I gave up complete control on all but one thing to get and extra $5,000 and he still we $6,000 over budget I'd be livid. I mean carefully trying to save money by buying a beautiful $500 dress then turning around and spending $800 on grooms cake? Where were those ugly little camo planes? He could have put them on a cake I mean he put the not quite as tacky ones on all the centerpieces after all.

I think they played up the budget as bride was not bridezilla for them. I am sorry but no way they couldn't have put purple flowers in bouquet for less then twice the price, plenty of purple flower options. I am with the bride spend less and save the money for a house, a honeymoon etc

The planes were tacky and $400 wasted. The grooms outfit wasn't overly flattering. I wonder if purple hydrangeas would have cost more than white? They are very beautiful when natural. Even if they cost a bit more it would have been covered if they got rid of the planes. I appreciate he was trying to create a personal touch - but it didn't work. a plane on the table numbers,, name cards would have been next to nothing. The two cakes were way over the top and easily could have saved $500 or more with one cake. Another $400 for the planes on the flowers Another $1000 for the message in the sky. Some strategic cuts were ncessary to get closer to budget.
