I've recently run across your KZbin channel and find your videos to be extremely informative. I've subscribed to your channel and I've been going through your video collection and I find them very enjoyable. I'm in the market for a new set of wedges and I'm seeing a lot of differences in the sharpness of the leading edges on various makes and models. Do you have any recommendations on how sharp that leading edge should be? Obviously a knife edge would be extreme but I think the other end of the spectrum with a very rounded leading edge would also prove to be problematic. I'm interested in your thoughts on this. Thanks!

THe leading edge does not have to be razor sharp, to the point you really don't want that. The important part of the wedge is leading edge, bounce, sole grind, lie, length and weight. marry them up to how you play and where you play for the best wedge

Two Questions. 1) What is your opinion on matching your Iron shafts with your wedge shafts? I'm using AMT Red for my irons, and I've just started using vokey wedges with the stock shafts. And it's a noticeable difference in weight. I've found some people state, it's good to match your 'full swing wedges' but not your finesse type wedge. 2) Would you match the Lie angle for wedges with the iron set? or is totally different? Thanks for all the information you've provided. and happy new year sir!

For full swing wedges I like them to match the flex and slightly heavier. for finesse shots a little more flexible and lighter. lie angles should match the irons or should be in line with the irons compared to length.

@@McGolf thank you sir, going in tomorrow for Lie Angle adjustment. Probably will find shafts that are much cheaper, but closer to the AMT Reds. Congrats on 5x Top 100!!!

Always wondered why LW SW and gap wedge were different length. Really don't feel like it makes a difference to precision at that point. Would you like to see 1 length wedges (all of them pitching wedge length) or is that slight length difference important for something I'm not seeing?

Hi! Great vid! I am wondering which tom wishon wedge you think is to recommend the most for a good player and also, how do these wedges spinn numbers compare to for example a vokey wedge?
@McGolf7 жыл бұрын
Magnus H hands down the micro groove hm wedge. The groove pattern and sole grind make it super versatile. Spin is based on how you trap the ball but all things being equal I would say the are very comparable

I have just bought a used set of Callaway XR irons 4-AW. I have been using 58° and 60° Vokeys. I can buy Callaway XR (used) sand wedge and Lob wedge for $85. Question: should I stick with the two I have or would having matched wedges in my bag?
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
Weather Reporter: John Blake the real answer is it depends. I tend to like wedges at the and lob to be different. My preference because wedges are made for a purposes where the same model wedges may not. Again, other golfers like this. If you are hitting the Vokey well then I say stick with what you know. If not then give a shot

McGolf Custom Clubs I think I’m going to keep my Vokeys. Reasons, I just paid my club dues and bought a new ClicGear 3.5 cart and I’ve played 25-30 rounds with my Vokeys and I haven’t gained 60% consistency. New wedges would mean- starting over. Thanks for replying so quickly!

really informative. i use the score wedges i have a 54 and a 58. they have the vsole. Have you ever used or tried the Score wedges. They are now known as the hogan tk wedges.
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
I stop using the Eidolon Ie score wedges when they became Hogans, mostly because they stopped making left handed stuff. The beveled sole is a great idea though
@McGolf6 жыл бұрын
Henry Tuton the lengths are different due to head weight and the maker wanting all the same swing weights. I used to make all my wedge the same length to purposely make the SW increase with the idea that heavier makes you get under the ball. It is still a good idea but some golfers like a light wedge and so different lengths

Bombtech has wedges 3 for $99. Curious how they would match up to name brand wedges. Any idea? Thanks for your expertise on the equipment end of things. I'm on a quest to improve my game and am expanding my knowledge of all things golf related. I'd like to see a video on regripping clubs. Basic stuff for you I'm sure :-)

Richard, I have not seen any of the bomb tech gear up close so giving an opinion on the equipment would be just that. I did watch the wedge segment on the website. What I can tell you is the design looks nice, I like heel and toe relief wedge for their versatility, nothing innovative but we are talking about wedges. There is no mention of the shaft or grip and when only talking about the price and the quality of the head I would suspect the shaft and grip might be lacking. I could be wrong. I did see where he made a 70 plus degree wedge I thought was very cool. Cast or forged is a preference. for the longest time everyone thought Cleveland and Vokeys were forged and most models are not. you have 60 days to try them, For the price I could reshaft them with KBS Hi Rev 2, 610 or graphite wedge shafts. and it would still be less than buy all there OEMs. That is if you like the head

McGolf Custom Clubs, Thanks for the feedback. I haven't really considered buying them as I'm very happy with my vokeys but I have buddies interested due to their price. I do plan on buying the the driver.. I don't know if I'll play it but I want to show up to my skin's game with that grenade head cover. haha.

Good video but you didn't address proper shaft for the wedges. Is there a separate video for this topic? Thanks
