My 3 jaw chuck and collet chuck are set up the same as yours with a little bit of adjustment clearance on the back plate register. It's looking like that welding helmet will be re-raffled for rest of this year🤣

Interesting watching the chuck and collet being set up and nicely accurate. Keep raffling the welding mask as I’ll eventually win it.

Like it John. My BURNERD MULTISIZE chuck is very accurate too, only wish they went up to like a size 3-4” 😂

To anyone sitting on the fence in regards to supporting John on patreon, Ive been happily supporting him since he started his patreon page. The quality and the amount of content he makes available cant be beaten. Id highly recommend doing it because you really are getting value for money, especially compared to other larger youtubers. Also hit the subscribe button its costs nothing.

It will be interesting to see what youtube do when you pass 100,000. They are known for messing about with subscriber numbers. I want to see you with that silver plaque. Been watching you a long time now. Really want to see you with that plaque!

That's a bit of a puzzle that you have to reset every time you fit the chuck, especially as it's got a keyway

It is never more than a couple of thou .sometimes it is spot on

I wonder if there's a burr on/in there and some blue would tease it out. The way he has it set up looks pretty straightforward to align for whatever runout is tolerable for the job. 🧠🧠🧠

@@doubleboost different torque on the lock ring perhaps, try setting it then add a couple of taps on the wrench and check again

If you are going to part the item off, as you seem to do a lot, then chuck concentricity doesn't matter a jot. My Colchester Student (1970) has a D cam lock but same principle, main difference is the taper is only very narrow, less than 10mm. I get good concentricity most of the time, which seems counter intuitive. I wonder if your longer taper makes it more susceptible to error? Strikes me as odd that apparently it's only out by a couple of thou at most? Perhaps it would be worth removing the key and lapping it lightly on the taper.
