Whatever happened to the depiction of the happy, friendly, extroverted Addams Family? They were weird, but they didn't think so. THAT'S what made their interactions with the general public hilarious. I can’t get over how the first episode made Wednesday so drainingly Not Like Other Girls. She complains about her normal high school and gets expelled. She’s annoyed about it even though she hated that school. She bemoans having to go to a school literally tailor made for the Addams family and she’s bitchy about it. The school bends over backwards to accommodate her and gives her a special black uniform and her roommate tries to be welcoming. She’s still being a snob. It’s like “okay, look, we get it you’re special and goffick, Enoby Dark’ness Dementia Raven Way, but what the hell DO you want?”

Yep, exactly this did spoil a lot for me at the start. At that point WA didn't feel like WA, but just like any random annoying constantly pissed off "not like the other girls" teenage female. I seen many people misstaking her for a Mary Sue, but I kinda disagree.. Not just that she is getting her ass handed to her a couple of times because she's overconfident and just not as smart or strong as she thinks she is...But those things where is good at.. like some fighting, fencing, mechanic skills... they all make somewhat sense when knowing the previous movies.

I think in the case of Tyler's raw deal, they showed us through the police station that he adopted the evil role. Remember how he explains at first he had black outs and couldn't remember anything? But as time went by, he started to remember everything he did as a Hyde. And rather than fight it, he grew to love that part of himself. Just like in the older Jekyll and Hyde books and movie adaptations. I think they wanted to show the tragedy of him turning into the villain because had he had a better support group of caring adults to nurture him, he could've gone a different way. At least that's my take.

You're worried about the legal technicalities during the series setup in a dark humor comedy? The notion that a schoolgirl can just up and find two gallon bags full of piranhas (a freshwater fish) out of nowhere between classes to dump into the school pool (so treated that it would kill freshwater fish) gets no comment at all, but when the show specifically tells us "that boy's family was going to file for attempted murder charges" you get all up in arms? I saw nothing whatsoever to suggest that the Tyler/Hyde had any possibility of being "rehabilitated." I don't feel anyone in the show would have reason to take the nearly suicidal risks required to even test the theory that he could be. The lore given about how and why Hydes do what they do pretty much suggests the opposite. That lore also divorces real mental difficulties from this fictional monster. It's not the show's problem if that's uncomfortable for you. And nothing ever suggests Tyler is the "scum of the earth." In fact, while Wednesday thinks Xavier is the Hyde, she almost goes out of her way to get him confess under peaceful means. It's not assumed, and nobody is trying to kill or even deter him before it's known as a fact. I couldn't agree more about your reviews of She-Hulk and Batwoman, but this just sounds like outrage for the sake of outrage. Or controversy clickbait. Unfortunate that you're putting that sort of thing out there, especially when you give proper praise to the rest of the show.
@bupbup7772 жыл бұрын
Tylor from Wednesday's perspective congested that after being in a fog of being controlled and manipulated that he started becoming more aware of his actions, and he started to like them. Then implying that he does it voluntarily. That and the fact that he has directly and indirectly was on a killing spree had him tied up, arrested and going wherever the law was Taking him. To many people on both sides of the fence were hurt. So I can see him at least at first getting imprisoned. Side note, my guess, if I had to Regarding why Wednesday was able have the attempted murder charges dropped by tje kids parents is that Wednesday's parents likely bribed the parents with a lump sum of cash. It has been done before in past Addams family movies and perhaps shows.

The motivation of Wednesday is clear as she mentions. Nobody trtures my brother but me. This however brings me to the character of Pugsley being adapted to modern ideology. The original Pugley would dish out as much as he would receive. A school bully would be his favourite thing to scare off by packing a monster lunch and some creative counter measures. However somewhere along the line he seems to have lost those skills and became just a victim. Modern times I guess.

About characters that are not what the movie tries to make us believe: I call this "corrupted perception"! Usually twisted morals, double-standards and "social-status" are used to pull this of. For example: I just watched "Jumper" again and I had totally forgotten that the main character, played by Hayden Christiansen, is an utterly selfish professional criminal who leaves the only person who ever helped him, helpless in a war zone. The movie however tries to make us believe that he is some bullied little kid that became a sleek, smart, nice guy living his live, rescuing his great love from peril while actually he most likely causes dozens of Jumper to be killed. Wendnesday however is always portrayed as "evil" but when it comes to the other guy we have - double-standard again. It's a real nusience in modern cinema.

@horseradishpower99472 жыл бұрын
The powers are unpredictable, and she is warned not to take them too literally, that they could be unreliable narration. Catherine Zeta Jones is hardly in it. Uncle Fester has much more screen time, and the Addams that you see the most with her is Thing, who is is a great sidekick/friend for her. You have occasional buzzwords, like Wednesday saying someone is Mansplaining, but it really feels like it was put there just to get it greenlit. I wasn't spotting The Message in it, which is a relief. The bit at the start, with the piranhas... it was done with the Edith Piaf song "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien," which had me wide eyed and laughing. It is even more funny when you see what the lyrics are. I honestly don't understand why Wednesday and Pusgsley are not both attending Nevermore from the get go, but there we are. Jenna Ortega is perfect casting, however. This is the first time I have seen her act, and she is brilliant. She can do deadpan humour really well. Hope this helps you to decide if you want to watch it or not.

Watching this it felt like Tim Burton and and the producers were having to work really hard to get round the couple of bad woke writers they had to deal with. It just came across as really jaring at times when they characters would randomly start pratling on about accepting responsibility for past crimes and the outcast always being persecuted and they would always have to fight for acceptance. All these points were gotten across by the story and character reactions without ever needing to utter a word.

They were freaks and outcasts to everyone else but not to eachother. Anyway, I came here to decide if I should wath it or not. Im happy to hear it was worth watching cuz I really did want to... I was just afraid they would sh!t all over another one of my childhood favorites so I didnt dare. EDIT: Yea, so I watched it and I have to say. Guzman makes a good job. He still doesnt really fit the look imo but he carries the Gomez persona pretty well, better than I expected. There are a couple of annoying Modern PC crap in here I doubt Wednesday would ever really care about but theyre not preachy about it so its not that bothersome. Otherwise I like it. Ortega is fantastic and kinda morbidly cute which is absolutely spot on. The sets are fantastic, when she tears down the colored window and we get the shot of her and Enid facing eachother was really visually impactful. Also loved all the scenes with Wednesday playing the cello. Very interesting song choises xD

Tim Burton's previous TV projects include Aladdin in Shelley DuVall's Faerie Tale theatre, Beetlejuice the animated series. And one really boring cartoon called Family Dog, which earned a video game for some reason...

I enjoyed this show too, good to see Thing making a guest appearance.

Its funny to hear you say the first half of the season took a while to unfold, when that is only 4 episodes... Marvel really screwed up TV with all those 6 and 8 episode shows...

Thorias, your acting is far better than most of the so-called entertainment you review.

Just cringed back into the fourth dimension, of course Netflix would make this, as if the original adams family wasnt already focused on morticia and Wednesday anyways , just seems like a weird time to release a series about a psychic Wednesday Adam's... That takes itself totally seriously big time fan fiction vibes..

15:43 FEster was the weakest part in the show because of the level of sanity he portrayed, so I'm not sure why your compairring the two. Tyler should get a redemption arc, Yes!

Hearing his fate, I immediately knew Tyler was a white dude and that women probably wrote at least half the series.

Not gonna lie, I got to halfway through the first episode and Wednesday called a guy a tool of the patriarchy and I turned off. I don’t much care about the first 5 mins but when I hear patriarchy I turn off

I hate 'psychic flashes' in fiction, or as I call them, 'lazy-ass plot dumps from writers who can't be bothered having their characters actually discover stuff so they get information from MAAAGIIIIC.' There are, of course, few exceptions like 'Minority Report' but mostly, ESP is just a bullshit shortcut.

I didn't mind the first 5 minutes, it was kind of a call back to the old tv show. But the psychic powers crutch was a bit too much of a cheat code to me. Wednesday did good legwork for so much of the show, it was just, a cheat.

I nearly quit in the first 10mins when they turned Pugsley into a whiney crybaby and put Gomez on antidepressants.

Sorry, I just hate it when ensemble IPs are dissected or subverted in order to elevate one character above all others. I didn't like the idea of a solo Snake Eyes movie when they couldn't even make a faithful GIJoe adaption, nor do I like this cultish infatuation with the Wednesday character which has turned her into a vain pop culture deity. Can't help but get Teela-vibes circa Kevin Smith's Masters of the Universe whenever I see clips of this Wednesday show.
