Tyler is actually quite a tragic character. Tyler wasn't always a monster, until the Botanist literally groomed him to be Hyde. At worse he was just a bigot to outcast, making pranks at them, but when the botanist showed him her mother was an outcasts, he started changing his perspective. Moving away from his Outcasts Hating friends. Unfortunately the botanist controlled him and a Hyde's nature is to be loyal to the one who broke his shell. Like Wednesday said, "He thought the truth will set him free, but it enslaved him."

The version of Tyler he presented to her was perfect for her. They had chemistry and a connection that made an independent girl want to care about him. This is a very clever video, it actually makes you notice when Tyler was Tyler vs Hyde, even the therapist said she could see a change in him. He told Wednesday that he wanted to change & be a better person after what happened with Xavier, so it's sad when you realise that got taken away from him when Laurel started to groom & manipulate him. I think Wednesday got to know the real Tyler towards the beginning of the series, at the end, he lost himself but I still think he can find Tyler again without having a master. I do believe that he liked Wednesday & felt a connection, for example, when he said he wished he was leaving with her, I think that was genuine, I think he wanted out of his situation. I don't think he is evil, he's damaged & he was taken advantage of, any one of the Nevermore kids could have been used by Laurel, but none of them were vulnerable enough. Yes he said he enjoyed killing, but I think that's because Laurel made him believe that's all he was good for. His Dad was useless, Wednesday seemed to be his only support but with Laurel in his ear, how was he supposed to ignore his master? I think there is so much more of a story to tell about Tyler/Hyde & Tyler/Wednesday

2:38 I've said it before and I'll say it again. I think Tyler has Dissociative Identity Disorder as a result of loosing his mother and his father's emotional detachment. The person Wednesday was talking to in the "What does it feel like?" scene was his alter. Tyler's core identity was not aware that he was the Hyde, and he did care about Wednesday, that's why he seemed genuine about his feelings about her. It's the alter who was obeying Laurel Gates, takes pleasure in murdering people and saw his relationship with Wednesday as means to an end. That might change now that Laurel is gone and can't control him.

Guys, come on. Tyler is a boy who doesn't get the proper attention from his father, he's without his mother, when he asks his father about his mother, his father is neglectful and doesn't want to talk about it. Then the little redhead saw that the way to manipulate Tyler was by using his mother, then it shows the Flashbacks of the little redhead approaching Tyler and showing him that his mother was a Hyde, she may have manipulated him in many ways, have spoken that the outcasts killed his mother, for him to get mad at the outcasts and help her, but he probably didn't want to help at first and so she kidnaps him, takes him to that cave and TORTURES him, we see him IN chains, then the little redhead appears with a syringe in her hand, I have the theory that that syringe must be some kind of drug that she gave to Tyler, or it could be that syringe that made him look bad. What makes me believe that Tyler is good, is that he was tortured, if he was really bad, the redhead wouldn't have to torture him, she probably did it to force him, another thing that makes me think he's good is that in the beginning he tried to flee the city with Wednesday, remember? I think he was trying to escape from the redhead and protect Wednesday, and remember when he tells Wednesday "at least one of us can leave Jericho" meaning that he was trapped there without being able to leave because of the redhead's control over him, but Wednesday could leave, he was already giving her tips and she didn't realize it, I think it was a way of asking for help, and there's also that scene in the police where he cries talking to her, I don't think it was acting, I think it was another way to ask for help (This reasoning was not written by me , I just agree with him and decided that others should also see the opinions of this person who wrote about it)Thanks

But I still feel there is hope that he wasn’t fully conscious of his Hyde side!! that seems like a hot take for some reason? Even though there are all kinds of pointers. - that dude with the diary (Nathaniel something) dedicated his life to researching Hydes because he wanted to know if they were conscious of their actions or not. His research remained inconclusive. - Kinbott said that every time she spoke to Tyler about his mother, he would become cold and detached-like he “snapped”. And it was like he was “a completely different person.” - the famous scene where Tyler fesses up to Wednesday about everything always appeared especially sus to me because, even though people are saying he is an incredible actor and reverted to looking innocent again, I feel that it’s possible he really is innocent. @inezchong1306 It could be true that Tyler has two different personalities: the real Tyler Galpin and the Hyde w/in himself. We know for a fact that his mother suffered from severe bipolar disorder possibly from being a Hyde herself. Unfortunately, Laurel had him figured out for what he is, had him chained up in a cave and beaten repeatedly into submission and proceeded to manipulate him into thinking the outcasts are his enemies. The actor, Hunter Doohan, said he's very interested in exploring these two personalities so S02 may shed some light into what Hydes actually are and explore what Tyler's real feelings are; both towards Wednesday and as a Hyde monster who had no choice but to do Laurel's evil bidding. Mind u, he tried to help Wednesday escape in ep1. An actual stranger at that moment let alone an outcast (his supposed enemy). There was also that scene where he seemingly drowned himself in the bathtub screaming with anger, so Tyler might've been conscious with his killing-spree but was feeling overwhelmed and possibly guilty for the terrible things he was forced/commanded to do. What he went through was unfair and tragic. I am hoping for his redempt arc because he deserves that much✨

Marilyn for sure manipulated him. I get that this doesn't apologise any of the terrible things he did to innocent people but I really do feel bad for him. I think he liked the double life, he liked who Wednesday thought he was and really loved her but only as long as she was oblivious to the fact that he was a Hyde, when that was broken he lost all interest in playing pretend and ultimately embraced the fact that everyone he cares about would view him as the monster he is and so he acted like one.

Hi! Thank you! I'm glad you liked the video☺ I think that he has split personality because of his monstrous side. They compared his mom being a Hyde to having bipolar disorder and I think Tyler situation's the same. As his therapist said: "It's like I'm talking to a completely different person". He has a lot of rage inside towards oucasts that's why he's bullied Xavier but that doesn't make him inheretely evil. We don't know a lot about his side of the story and it's too early to draw any conclusions yet. But he's genuine in his desperate attempt to get attention from his father. And I think there was sensirity in his interactions with Wednesday too. His purpose was to distract her from pursuing the case but I think that he geniually started to like her for who she is. And their fisrt interaction wasn't planned. You can see his resentment towards outcasts ("I never met a Nevermore kid who got their hands dirty") but he's curious about her with her Grim Reaper Barbie attitude. And on their date he's completely charmed by her behavior. I think that he' becomes attracted to her and it goes against everything he wants to believe in. And even after his reveal in the crypt he looks hurt when she tells him to follow orders of his master. There is so much to explore here. I hope that we get a second season and see his side of a story.

I strongly believe that at the beginning he did want to just use her, but eventually he started liking her. Maybe even loving her. There are many ways to fake attraction and love, but a lot of things that Tyler did, didn't seem fake at all. The amount of work he put into that date, wanting to kiss her and in the process risk getting exposed by her psychic abilities, that coffee with the "happy birthday" on it, how he looked at her. You can't fake how you look at someone, like on 4:06 of the video. Sadly, I believe the manipulation and the whole "Hyde's are loyal to their Master" was stronger than his feelings for her. What I'd like to happen in S2 is for Wednesday to start looking for him once she finds out that he escaped the van and is on the loose. When she finds him he is scared of hurting her and Wednesday's anger is still there, but her love for him is still there as well. So she decides to give him a chance. Her next goal is to continue the research of Nathaniel Faulkner in order to help Tyler and Hydes in general. Eventually Tyler learns how to control his Hyde side (to an extent), saves her from the stalker (the text she got at the end of ep.8) and kills Laurel for everything she did to him (at least I think she's still alive). I doubt this will happen, but a girl can dream right? xD Either way, all I want is for them to end up together. They are perfect for each other. q-q

@@555SoledaD i agree with u i think he kind of liked her but only to a little extent i think he used her but liked her enough to kiss her i think this because a lot of the show i was thinking “why does he even like her” the actors didn’t really have that much chemistry besides during the dance and now i know why he liked her he used her

@@555SoledaD i agree. they even pointed out the jekyll and hyde thing in the show. there’s a reason the monster is called a hyde and the question of them being mindless killers or conscious of their actions was also never answered. can’t wait for season 2. just hope they don’t water his character down to simply “the villain of the story”. especially after that very clear depiction of child abuse and manipulation he went through.

he was manipulated. it was not Tyler. it was the Hyde in himself that was forced out of him. he does care for her. i understand if you don't agree. he even said it himself that he wants to change. At the fair Ep1 he said "i wish i could come with you." as he was trapped and also said " i wanna get out of this hell hole town." i hope he honestly cared, if he didn't why would he be crying after he was forced to confess to wednesday.
