She did an amazing job with this and kept true to the character, who is pretty much devoid of showing and expressing emotions. While she verbally will express annoyance, she doesn't really do emotions or body language that shows it. Usually dancing is expressing emotions, but she doesn't. Her eye contact and lack of affect makes it seem more like she is hunting prey with a death dance, rather than expression of human emotions. Awesome job.

There was an accident that killed a teen or teens at a dance. I think one of the first mosh pits? Some newspapers wrote articles calling for such dances to be banned as too dangerous. This band did this song as a sort of reply and comment on the situation.

From Wikipedia: "The writer/lead singer Ivan Doroschuk has explained that "The Safety Dance" is a protest against bouncers prohibiting dancers from pogoing to 1980s new wave music in clubs when disco was declining and new wave was coming in. Unlike disco dancing, which is done with partners, new wave dancing is done individually and involves holding the torso rigid while thrashing about; pogoing involves jumping up and down (the more deliberately violent evolution of pogoing is "slamdancing"). Clubgoers doing the newer pogo dance were perceived as posing a danger to disco dancers on the dance floor, and so club bouncers would tell pogoers to stop or be kicked out of the club. Thus, the song is a protest and a call for freedom of expression."

The lead singer of men without hats was kicked out of clubs specifically the b52s and blondie for pogoing (which has later turned into like punk dancing and other stuff) he was pissed and wrote the song and it became a massive hit... I guess he got the last laugh, pogoing was considered to be intrusive and bothering the ppl still doing disco style dancing, so 'safety' dance is referring to following "club rules" or being somewhere safe to not...
