Whats even sadder is that in the novels it was explained that when Sasuke was facing Itachi he still felt love for him. That was one of the reasons why he was able to break the tsukuyomi. For him his beloved brother also died the same night as his parents. For him, the man he was facing was only a shell of what was once Itachi. That fight was to avenge him too.

spoilers sasuke in theory could of been written as the hero main lead if kishi wanted the story to go that way...his story is sadder then naruto as a mian character even if sasuke himself is not as flexible interesting engaging or relateabe or likeable per say....but he chose the wrong path even if it sorta understandable and orochimaru manipulated him in the end he chose his path...makes it hard to agree with his choices back then and now especially after this reveal but naruto never gave up on him cause he saw him as his idol his friend his brother masked as a rivalry.. ...which in the end brings sasuke to his senses...its still one of the most emotionally fulfilling endings ever for that reason alone....they may not like each other but the respected one another after kakashi's speech about abandoning comrades and teamwork....sometimes you will disagree and fight with teammates but you can cover each others wounds flaws and if you respect one another you can do anything as a team that you could not alone ...as itachi says to naruto don't bear it all alone....i tried that I failed...sauske sees this...naruto understood it...

The manga translation for Itachi’s last words were “Sorry Sasuke... ...this is the last time.” and I think that makes a huge difference and is so much more beautiful compared to the English dub’s translation! (Since Itachi always said “I’m sorry Sasuke, maybe next time.”) I think there are also some versions that translate it to “I’m sorry Sasuke, but there is no next time.”

The sad part is, itachi always said the Mangekyo sharingan comes from killing the person you love most. In order for sasuke to get the mangekyo from killing itachi, he would have to love itachi. I don't know why people expected Sasuke to return to the village. They wanted to spill innocent blood amongst the culprits of the coup and hide their evidence afterwards by blaming a 14 year old boy. Sasuke's beloved older brother no less! He was only kept alive thanks to Itachi making sure that he would never find out the truth and turn against the village justifiably. Aside from that, Sasuke is no longer safe in the village. Danzo can break his promise to Itachi. He tried to murder him once and he will do it again. Anything in order to cover his crime. Consider this. Itachi planted a single use, trap activation of one of his most powerful ninjutsu into Sasuke with that same forehead tap he always used to do before the massacre. He transferred a portion of his power to Sasuke with a small contact. He's also stated that he can place someone under genjutsu with a finger, and his ability with genjutsu is great enough that the target would never know. Back before the massacre, he did that tap in conjunction with an apology for not having time to help Sasuke train. How much of Sasuke's prodigal ability from his academy/early shinobi days was either taught to him in a genjutsu, or transferred directly just like that?

Im a writer so I can pick up on things that make that clear, but It was the right decision. It gave sasuke fantastic character development and made the fanbase find new found love for itachi.(Although the fans can make it be a bit much)

Why did Itachi kill everyone even kids? You want to know why? Because a v important person and his best friend requested him something. *”Please save the Leaf Village and the name of the Uchiha”* He killed everyone because he didn’t want to risk the children becoming threats later on. Thus *saving* the Leaf Village. He became the worst criminal in history so that when Sasuke killed him, he would be treated as a *hero*..thus...restoring the *reputation* of the Uchiha Clan.

@JJ Kingman Sasuke straight up is going to do what Itachi tried to prevent in the first place.... you know... a war, the killing of innocents who had NOTHING to do with what happened... he is just going to go destroy it all, everything people have worked for, people have died to protect, even his own brother went through HELL to make sure the village survived.... Sasuke's like "they made my big brother do this?! KILL THEM ALL!!! ALL THE CHILDREN AND WOMEN SHALL DIE, and THERE HOMES WILL BURN!!! LIke Sasuke is straight up crazy at a certain point. @@sarveshnathan7559 Sure.... but Sasuke is still crazy and wrong for wanting to destroy the Leaf. If he admired his big brother, he would realize how smart and amazing he was in how he protected his village... essentially, what Sasuke did during the war arc after he met with edo Itachi and fought Kabuto is what he should have done... not just trust Tobi and turn on the Leaf.... hell he straight up wants to murder Naruto for no good reason. Some things you just can't justify, even for revenge, not that Itachi wanted revenge in the first place and Sasuke should understand that even from Tobi's story.
