While Volchansk’s capture would be a great bonus, that doesn’t seem to be the main objective. The purpose of the Kharkiv offensive was not just to use up reserves but also divert forces from the main fronts in the south and east, weakening their defenses for the RF to strike in that area. Even now, it’s been feeling successful for the time being.

I disagree with the statement that the Kharkiv offensive hasn’t led to significant gains by the RF in Donetsk and Zaporizhe. Kleeschevka and Robotyne fell shortly after May 10 when the offensive began. The front west of Avdeyevka continues to move westward and north which is a big problem for supplying the IAF in Chasiv Yar. Russia did not March to Kiev but they continue to take territory and have the initiative.
@mpc7440

To be fair, those fronts were already moving even before the Kharkiv offensive. If anything, the Ocheretyne front has slowed down since the Kharkiv offensive. In all likelihood, we won’t see any effect on the front due to the Kh. offensive until a month or two from now, when local reserves near the frontline are exhausted.

The Russian command in charge of the Vulhedar direction needs to be reformed because clearly they haven’t learned from their mistakes, during the first year of the war the amount of trained black marines they’ve threw at Ukrainian army like zombies is completely insane and unfortunately many of them died. To say that Russia is struggling in Volvchansk is completely misleading. The aim of that offensive was to force Ukraine to mobilize the only remaining reserve they had. The Ukrainians are now forced to retake a city center which is known to be one of the deadliest assault you could do. They have lost countless soldiers and armored vehicles and Russia will gently set back like they did in Zapporijjia while they are exhausting the Ukrainians in a pointless battle to retake territories they should have never lost in the first place.

@@michalzajic2555Who said their forces were wiped out? Russia has already started a new push around Toretsk. While for some strange reason people still comment about failed offensives Russia just keeps on putting pressure on at different areas of the front to force Ukraine to respond and divert resources. Once those forces arrive Russia hits them and their supply lines and then dig in or fall back and then start again somewhere else. While they are constantly forced to respond to these attacks Ukraine is unable to build up and adequately train reserves for any meaningful attacks themselves.

since the kharkiv offensive/attack, ukraine has relocated significant amount of troops to kharkiv, but we have not seen any major breakthrough in the donbas by the russians, nor do the pace of advance increased. not sure what the plan is. my belief has always been that it is a diversionary attack to force ukraine to relocate troops, relocate troops they did, and then what? did they planned to get pushed back? highly unlikely. it is what it is, hundreds of battles take place in the battlefield everyday, you can't win all of them. ukraine can't push the russians out entirely, but at least they have successfully pushed back, NAFOs celebrating like crazy already.

@Lina_Antoniou
@Lina_Antoniou 3 ай бұрын
Sounds like they need it, so they probably defend it somewhat better than it is made to appear on average. Also, if for whatever reason they need to push further in, they have the forces to do so. But as of now their main concern is to preserve their forces as best they can, maybe because they expect other countries to attack them if they go all out (hence also the pact with Korea DPR I guess). On the other hand Ukraine apparently is in a desperate situation, so Russia expectably has the initiative and chooses to just keep grinding them down until the decisive breakthrough is achieved. Which one this will be and when, only time will tell. But one thing is for sure, the Russians know what they 're doing and will make that decisive breakthrough. It is just a matter of when and where, not if.
