Back then, trench warfare meant months or years could pass without advancing due to the danger of the opposing trench across no man's land. Now, however, we can just delete that entire trench, the people in it, and push. Kursk incursion is an Anti Terrorist Operation by Russian Govt announcement, not a declaration of war so it is limited in its scope. Novorossiya - Donbass are new states with their own Governing bodies and defence forces who cooperate with the Russian Govt to preserve and protect the sovereignty of the population of these new states. Again, this is a SMO with limitations and restrictions. If war is declared against Ukraine, the situation in the whole of Ukraine will end in fire but as Vladimir Putin repeats "we are brother people" so it now depends on the next stupid decision by NATO and USA as to how far Russia WILL push back.
