@samanthadegroot77493 ай бұрын
the biggest issue i had with that though is that they wrote the entire storyline to make amity as innocent as possible, like, it felt weird that willow didn't forgive amity for that stuff because amity didn't do anything wrong. willow's future was threatened if amity kept being her friend, so she stopped being her friend. her parents made her do that. amity's line of "i wasnt strong enough to be your friend" makes no sence because she wasn't running away from getting in trouble or being ostracised, she was trying to protect willow. thats also part of the shows bigger issue they have with never wanting to let amity be morally grey or even just wrong at any point. they want her to get a redemption arc, but they're not willing to have her actually have done anything wrong to WARRANT a redemption arc.

@DanGamingFan24063 ай бұрын
@@samanthadegroot7749 It makes perfect sense. When Amity says that, she means she should've been stronger and stood up to her parents instead of letting them tell her how to live her life. It doesn't excusewhat she did, it just means she's not entirely to blame. And even though she didn't want to hurt Willow, the fact of the matter is, she still did. Pain like that which you've been holding onto for years takes a while to get over no matter what the circumstances. And it's because Amity was manipulated, and she truly feels remorse that both can begin the healing process.

And so we enter the real meat and potatoes of the show. And yes, as others have mentioned, dress up for Episode 16 if you can. When that episode first aired, the show's creator, Dana Terrace, suggested on Twitter that everybody wear a nice formal outfit to watch it! You should watch the next 4 episodes, the last 4 of the first season, as two episodes in one video each, because episode 16 and 17 complement each other very well and the last two episodes, episode 18 and 19 are finale part 1 and finale part 2 (that's not the name of the episodes, but they are literally part 1 and 2, episode 19 starts at the end of episode 18, which ends with a cliffhanger).

I felt so bad for Willow but also Amity in this moment bc her parents truly were the reason why they had a falling out. However Amity wasn’t completely innocent since she was putting Willow down ever since their introduction and that wasn’t necessary especially considering they were best friends allowing her new friends to bully her. Still tho I’ll cut her some slack since it her parents especially the mother being the reason for their falling out.

Gotta say, ep15 is my favourite ep in s1. It fully explains and recontextualises Willow and Amity's character. It makes perfect sense that Willow had no self-confidence at all since from her perspective she's so bad at magic that her best friend didn't even wanna be with her and teased her constantly because of this. And of course Amity would bully Willow. It's not immediatly obvious, but bullying her was probably Amity's way to convince herself that it was her decision to stop hanging out with Willow. It was wrong, but it was also a trauma response. Luz really did heal their lives by appearing in them.

so with this episode I wanna point out something: in her debut while amity was rude to willow, a lot of her actions and words could be read as her trying to like motivate willow beneath it all. For example her abomination painteed a little star on her forehead while saying "You're a star", which could be seen as like it acting out on Amity's hidden feelings. even when willow and luz started their ruse amity never actually singled out Willow outside like maybe one line and her focus was purely on LUz, the weird imposter she never seen before.

look back in the episode where we first met willow and amity and you can see that AMity's bullying can seem like ehr trying to goad Willow to excel while hiding it under the guise of being mean. Hell remember how she summoned an abomination that told willow 'you're a star'? rememebr abominations only do things their creators tell them to. So yeah this reveal works cause you can actually see the groundwork even as early as then.

I'm going to comment on each ep individually. Let's start with ep14. I disagree with people who say it's a filler. 1st of all, I don't believe in filler at all, people abuse this term. Any ep in a good show either progresses the story directly, deals with character development or expands on worldbuilding. A prime example of that is Adventure Time (people who've seen it know what I mean). 2nd of all, even if we take the definition of a filler as most people understand it, which is that it's an ep that doesn't progress the story (isn't the right definition btw), ep14 still doesn't fit imo, because it develops King's character. And I consider character development to be the focus of any story. A story without character development is just a mix of uningaiging events. So ep14 is pretty important all things considered.
