great stuff Jason...TY. Ive had the hardest time getting rid of two weeds...>Dallis and oxalis. Ive sprayed both thinking they are dead, roasted them, and two months later they are back like I never did anything to them. These are yards treated with pre em too, so they aren't coming back from seed....I guess they are just TOUGH, or as you put it...the NEMESIS!!

Thanks Jason! Great info. There’s some type of low growing weed that looks like a type of grass in clumps that lays on top of dirt and pops up after spraying round up. It does it every time. So the roundup kills the weeds and/ or grass and not long after that starts growing. It doesn’t absorb water either. Meaning it’s always moist in the area. Just thought you may have an idea of what that could be.

I’m having some luck frying Dallisgrass with a Pastora and Image all-in-one mix. Makes a 4 way mix of Metsulfuron, Nicosulfuron, Sulfentrazone, and quinclorac. I’m mixing both at the high rate in a spot sprayer. I did my first test with this mix 3 weeks ago, 3 days after mowing and there is no new growth and approx 50% yellowing of the leaves. Untreated spots are thriving and have grown 3-5” tall in the same time period. The Bermuda around the spot treatments yellowed for the first two weeks but seems to be greening back up. Time will tell the final result…Pastora is not labeled for residential lawns but is readily available at any farm store. I’m Thinking one more spot treatment may wipe it out completely, and the best part is both products cost about 1/4 the price of Tribute Total

When dealing with small amounts like quarter of an ounce per acre, can consider diluting it in half first with distilled water so half an ounce can be used per acre, or diluting it with 3/4 parts of water so one full ounce can be used. Coming from a chemist who deals with high concentration chemicals all the time. Trust me you’ll end up with more accurate concentration in the end this way.
@louf71784 жыл бұрын
I'm not following that at all. I'm under the impression, for example, it's 1/4 oz./gallon/acre - I don't see your dilution method.
@Ricochet6224 жыл бұрын
@@louf7178 Hi there! By making a 2-step dilution, it basically gets you closer to the theoretical concentration. I'm going to use the metric system to explain this because it's easier to illustrate this theory. Let's say the stock solution of Tenacity is 10 and the final desirable concentration of Tenacity for the lawn application is 1. To make 1mL of final you will have to use 0.1 mL Tenacity and 0.9mL water for a 1:10 dilution, still with me? However, measuring 0.1mL is really hard and in reality, you were off by -0.005mL. Therefore, you've ended up using 0.095mL instead to make your 1mL. This actually ends up giving you a final concentration of 0.95 instead of 1. An easy way to calculate this will be (Final Concentration) (Final Volume) = (Stock Concentration) (Stock Volume) Since we want to calculate the final concentration from the mess up, we make the final concentration as "x" and plug that into the formula above (x)(1mL) = (10) (0.1-0.005) (x)(1mL) = (10) (0.095) x= 0.95 Now, if we do a 2-step dilution by first making a 1:1 dilution of the stock - say using 10mL of the stock and add 10mL of water to it. Theoretically, your secondary stock would now be 5. But again, in reality we were off by -0.005mL from measuring, so your secondary stock is actually 4.9975. This could be calculated by: (x)(20mL) = (10)(9.995) With the secondary stock, you now proceed to make your final. In a calculation, from a concentration 5 stock, your "NEW" dilution will be to use 0.2mL to make a final 1mL. But again, you were off by -0.005 from measuring and end up using 0.195mL instead. But this way, even with the many mess up from measuring, your final concentration will actually end up being 0.9745125! (x) (1mL) = (4.9975)(0.195) In the end, you see how this 2-step dilution get you closer to the desire concentration of 1? (0.9745125 versus 0.95)
@louf71784 жыл бұрын
@@Ricochet622 Thank you for taking the time to write such an elaborate explanation. To be honest, I'm not really following, but I get the general gist (with 0.05 ml being a rule of thumb). To be specific, 1ml with 9ml would be 1:9 (?); and as you later continued with 10ml, why not start the original with a larger volume? I'm presuming the practice comes from instances where that is not feasible. What I end up doing for high dilution of small solutes (in herbicide solutions) is rinsing the vial (measuring spoon, etc...) with water solvent to get full solute into the solution. It works fine with, say 1 tsp to 1 gallon, but would not work well with, say, 1 tsp to 10 tsp (what I would then do is 1 to 5, and then rinse with the remaining 5 - this might be close to the idea you are presenting). Thanks again.
@Ricochet6224 жыл бұрын
@@louf7178 The rinsing technique is definitely a good practice! And yes, you can definitely start the original with a larger volume, the only caveat to this is your final volume will end up being higher. Sometimes that's not desirable because of storage space/chemical interactions/expiration etc... By the way, 1mL to 9mL is NOT 1:9. An easier way to think about this is if you make half-fold dilutions (or 1:2). You would mix 1mL stock with 1mL water, and not 1mL of stock with 2 mL of water. You're also probably thinking - well half-fold dilution should be 1:1 and not 1:2(?), this is an oxymoron and commonly misinterpreted. 1:1 usually means mixing equal parts of 2 things (chemicals) together, this is different math from making serial dilutions. Hope that helps! :)

Jason, Bayer advance has a season long weed control. It says it won't harm lawn's. The grasses you just showed, (weeds) will it kill them,? Am I better off using that in November - February? I Use a granular (6 bags,) 15000 sq. Feet at one time in April, weed and feed, then lower the application down to 4 bags, in the fall, putting out less, which confuses me what number to set the dial on the spreader. I have zoysia grass and the grass that turns brown in the winter. I have tree's and also full sun so I can't just use 1 type of grass. I'am trying to weed out & get my yard to the 2 types of grasses. Found a grass that has red/pink roots yesterday. I'm going to fire Foxie Dog if she doesn't help me! Lol Thanks, Jason. I'm taking your sample weeds out side to find them ,then mark the area and then look for a ganular product. Hope I will only find 1, I hope.

Hey Jason, thanks for the great videos. I have a question about types of grass/weeds. I haven't cut my lawn in over a week because I wanted to let the bahia grass grow long so that I could pinpoint where to spray some MSM Turf formula, and I noticed another type of grass seed growing. It isn't long and high, it looks like a grass and not a weed, and it has one stem of purple seedlings. I've tried to research, and it may be something called Buffalo Grass, which one site called a type of St Augustine grass. Is this correct, and is it okay to let grow in your yard?

@traceyelledge56885 жыл бұрын
Henchman Number_1 I do weed control as well. He is giving the right advice. Dallas grass is tough and expensive to kill. You have to make three to four rounds a week or so apart. That’s a lot of back and forth and if you charge for that the customer isn’t going to be happy. If you don’t charge you have lost money on that round of treatment. I get what your saying but, he is definitely right on this one. Now, if you can tell your customer there is going to be a charge for the extra time it takes on this particular weed and once killed you go back to normal agreed application costs. Then it would be worth it.
