Luna is the oldest goat on our farm, and has brought so much joy to our world -- today we explore options of how to help her pain.
Hi there! 👋🏻 We live on a 1-acre farm right in the middle of the busy city of Phoenix, Arizona! Our names are Kevin & DaNelle, and we moved here in 2009, when our kids Ethan & Lydia were just 6 & 4 years old 🥰 Over the years we've raised goats for milk, chickens for eggs, built a fish/swim pond, planted fruit & nut trees, and grew a large garden full of veggies. We've also raised a bunch of other animals like pigs, sheep, turkeys, geese, peacocks, and more!
Now that our kids are away at college, we have settled into doing what we love most -- which is raising & breeding goats ethically to improve genetics. But don't worry, we'll forever love our goofy pet goats like Luna the herd queen & Willow the stump lover. We also still love raising chickens for eggs, gardening, tending to the fruit & nut trees, and growing fish in the pond. We use the fresh goat's milk to make cheese, butter, yogurt -- and we use that + everything else we harvest on our little farm to make delicious meals. Having a getaway from the busy world right in our backyard brings so much joy to us each day, and we hope it brings some to you, too. 🥰

We were just sitting in the Taco John's drive thru. I was looking at my subscriptions and saw this video. Immediately I gasped and my fiance asked what was wrong. I went on for about 20 minutes about Luna, how important she is and how much we all love here. Mostly how much you all love her. Someone once told me that it's better to be a week early than a day late. I hope that Luna can live comfortably! 💕 I had to put my Service Dog down because he had incurable Cancer and it was fast moving. Very sad, but he was a very special dog, a wonderful service animal and he's at peace now. It's been 2 1/2 years and I'm ready for another Service Dog. 🙂

Quality of life can be defined so individually. My cat, that I only had for the last 9 years of his 22 1/2 years, never slunk off to an isolated place in his final days. The sicker he got, the more he wanted to be held by me. When I realized he was just existing, no longer purring, no interest in anything except me, I knew our time was ending. For Luna, I think when she stops trying to move at all or is clearly in too much pain, and/or when she no longer has interest in the boys or anyone else. I hope she manages a good while longer, but she has lived a long, full life, and her best life in your care and with her critter friends. You can't ask for better than that. ❤❤

There is a type of tile called saltillo that is known for having paw prints on them. Your cats were just adding extra protection for you in the new concrete! "There is a tradition in the Southwest United States and Northern Mexico, near superstitious significance, that every floor laid with Saltillo tile must have a “protector” tile set within its boundaries for good luck. Poor sweet Luna, I hope the gabapentin helps her. It’s help me with my diabetic neuropathy pain in my right foot and ankle and lower leg. I just love her so and I always laugh when I think about the time Luna and the goat stud somehow snuck out of their pens, and she wasn’t supposed to be mated , for a few stolen moments, and Luna gave birth to a lamb.❤

I appreciate that you are doing all you can to keep her comfortable but I also understand if her time is coming and you guys may have to make the hard decision soon. I know many farmers around where I live would have laid her to rest by now, especially with the rough winters here. This reminds me of the neighbors old horse. I moved Into a new house and their was a old mare, a flea bitten grey, Paso fino mare. She was sweet and smart, but she was also 34….she had a lot of pain In her legs and was put down In October. I hope Luna Is comfortable until the time comes. 😕

Bless Queen Luna. Does Luna like Banana? Bananas covered in peanut butter for her pills is an option I've used. Cut the pills in half/quarters to make them smaller & easier to insert & not so noticeable when they chew. I hope the diet change helps with the added meds.

Prayers for the meds to take Luna's pain away. I wonder what age she would be as a human. a goat reaches adulthood at 2 years. And after the 2nd year, each goat year is equal to 4.4 human years. Soooo, since Luna is 12, in human yrs she is 50. Not a senior citizen but maybe in goats senior citizen comes sooner. Love her.
