Is there a reason for the emphasis on reproduction ("replicates and leaves progeny in another organism") when defining infection? To me this definition gets complicated when talking about parasites that don't leave progeny in the organism in which they live (e.g., hookworms). Is a host-worm relationship called something other than an infection?
