Final thought on Miami, separate from the calls, I know Ward is the reason Miami is 7-0, but I think more people need to acknowledge that the team around Ward in Miami is the reason he's going to go to New York, maybe snag a trophy, and definitely why he's bullying his way into 1st round talk for the draft. Ward had talented receivers at Wazu, but he's definitely seeing the benefits of similarly talented receivers, along with a better offensive line, and a good complimentary running game. It's not pointed out enough that Miami was the right situation for Ward. There were a few other open spots that were courting him, and maybe Ohio State with Ward is something equally special, but there's no denying that there was the soul, and the bones, of an elite offense in Miami just waiting for the right QB to take the reigns.

Keep in mind that in past years the officials would blow plays dead when they should have let them play out. The argument them was to let the play continue and you can review afterwards to see if there was a (fumble, interception, touchdown, etc) game changing play. Now that they let the situation play out, most want the on the field call stand without verification.

It’s never about the bad call on the field for Miami. But calls are meant to be reversed upon review to be corrected. Miami was a laughing stock against GT, but no one got upset with the fumble that wasn’t.
@jpDragna22 күн бұрын
What I think needs to happen at both the collegiate and pro level is we need to remove the "call on the field" precedence. The best solution I've heard was one I think would work, if all refs on the field are unsure, and I mean consensus all, of what transpired on the field, make no call, immediately send it to replay. If one ref thinks they saw the play, call it, otherwise half these calls, and it's not just been Miami, they've just had the worst luck with them (or best depending on your perspective), but solidly half of them where they just let play continue or make a decision on the field that will trigger an auto review (against VaTech incomplete pass likely immediately ends the game with no time for review to look at things, touchdown triggers an auto review so refs are told to call that) you sit there and think, yeah they got the call right reversing it, but is there indisputable evidence. You're putting the burden on having the right view on replay when, and people don't understand this, no two stadiums have the same camera setup to get these replays. Have you watched a Syracuse home game on TV? It's incredibly disorienting to try and watch (no offense, they just really need to figure that out). So if the angles are different and inconsistent, but you know what the right call is seeing the play in slow mo why not have that be the case? No call on the field to have to "overturn" just "we weren't sure, replay saw this and they think based on the angles this is what happened." Because again from most of the angles you looked at for Ward, and from the live play you thought, man that was an incomplete pass why are we watching this play out. And the first thing out of Tessatore's mouth was "Hey but do we see enough to overturn." You shouldn't be saying, after a game, yeah they made the right call, but they didn't do it the right way. You shouldn't have systems in place that doing the right thing is making the wrong call.
@jpDragna22 күн бұрын
To my point, Mac Lain saw how many views that it looked like a pass and 1 view where he wasn't so sure. If there's no call on the field that you're hunting for the possibility that there's not indisputable evidence like you were, are you looking beyond all the views that told you it was an incomplete pass? How much of what you're seeing, much less what the replay booth looks at, is influenced not just by the call on the field, but your own personal standard of what indisputable even entails. For some (and they wouldn't be wrong) that one view makes you question if it was a throw, and if you question it you gotta go with call stands....and that's just silly. Texas - Georgia just proved how invaluable replay can be when it's not constrained by call on the field. People hated it, and it was dumb, but there's not a single person disputing the fact that it wasn't DPI. It was obvious it wasn't, everyone's just saying that what's fair is the call on the field. Either do away with replay, which eliminates forcing refs to allow continuance on a play they believe should be blown dead, or take the "precedence" scale out of it.

the system is broken - the ACC refs allow the plays to play SO that it gets reviewed, but then that inherently creates a heavier burden of proof to overturn things. ACC refs just needed to call it an incomplete pass in the beginning. same issue with VT, no way in hell the ref thought it was a TD on the field, but they are trained to call it a TD SO they can review it but again, that's creating a scenario where the wrong call has a higher likelihood of being decided in the end

I don't understand why a call that was called on the field can't be overturned. Just because the officials call a call on the field doesn't make it concrete. That's the point of instant replay is it not? They (the NCAA) CLEARLY states in the rule book that you need INDISPUTABLE evidence to overturn the call on the field. That's exactly what they found for the last 3 games. It's not hard to understand. This is crazy with this cheating for Miami crap. Everyone is like "College football is better when Miami wins", but when they actually start to everyone's like "They're cheating". "They're paying the refs" 😂😂😂 it's absolutely hypocritical and extremely comical. Just saying. After seeing the Miami v Louisville game, what struck me is how their offense manages to shirk tackles and 'break' ankles. They also play rugby out there - what a scrim that was! It kinda makes me think that in those 300 passing yard games, at least half of that is due to the liberal rules that allow robots on the field with their anti-tackling software...lol... Cade looks GREAT. He's not a scrappy under-hand passer on the fly but he also didn't get sacked three times this week like KAM did. I see a chance for a Heisman for Cade, especially since the votes are not due to after the ACC championship game.
