The craziest thing about this is that Deshaun Watson is STILL ranked #6 in highest career passer rating in NFL HISTORY. That's after he's dropped slightly the past couple of years. Supposedly the Texans implemented an offense similar to Watson's college offense and Stefanski refused to do the same, with all the injuries and suspensions, I guess he just never got the chance to learn a pro style offense. Honestly one of the craziest career arcs in nfl history. This year is just so full of examples reminding us that QB's are HIGHLY dependent on their surroundings. You cannot take a qb out of one situation, put him in another, and expect the same results. The NFL also needs to go back to the days of sitting their rookie qb's for a year or two instead of throwing them into the fire immediately. Yeah SOME rookies keep up but most don't and then they get shat on for sucking when a lot of them simply need more development. Go back and look at Josh Allen's or Lamar Jackson's rookie years vs. later years. These are two of the most talented QB's in the league and they were mediocre as rookies.

Absolutely ended his career, not just his time with the Browns. He’s not good enough to be a starter, is injury prone, doesn’t have the experience to be a viable backup and no team wants the baggage he brings. I doubt he wants to play football again anyway. Just take his $240m and go grope masseuses some more.

In a parallel universe, the Browns keep their incumbent QB and don't squander three 1sts to get a QB with character issues. You can actually view this parallel universe ... it's the movie "Draft Day". (And yes, they did make that trade in the beginning ... but by the end, they fixed all their mistakes.)

Old guy here. This is so weird. He had a fantastic college career, and was really good in Houston. Then his off field problems surfaced and that seemed to drain his will to play with any positivity. I just wonder, how the Sam Hill did he get that HUGE contract with all that guaranteed money?? Somebody make it make sense.
@Marveryn2 ай бұрын
that the kicker for me. the guy had off field issue before the contract so why the brown slip in a let bail clause a lot sooner. 2 to 3 years to prove himself with an extension if he manage to showcase his talent if he did well. that contract had too many years on a qb that could end up in jail at any point during his stay. such a bad contract that it has at least 2 more years before the brown can wash their hands

The Browns beat the Ravens today. It’s very possible that the Browns wasted this entire season by starting Deshaun Watson instead of just going with a backup the whole time. This is not the first time this has happened as Joe Flacco led them to the playoffs last season and they still traded him so they could start Watson this season. What’s even funnier is they very well might do it again. The Browns have what it takes to be a potential contender and the team ownership/Deshaun continue to squander that opportunity.

I think the only way the brownies can recover from this in any kind of reduced time frame would be to trade the best players away to improve their draft. Fire sell. Letting Cooper go should just be the start. That is sad. But rookie contracts can help their cap space. They could also develop these rookies into a team. ( the lions did it in 3 yrs.) I hate to see this for the browns. Their luck runs as poorly as the lion's used to. The lion's rebuild had a committed structure from the owner, front office, GM and Coach. All on the same page.
