I work at a hospital. My job requires me to have contact with doctors often. I just wish they were as bubbly as you are. I consider it a good day if I only get yelled at by less than 3 doctors. Many of my coworkers comment, "if I had to be an OB/GYN and look at THAT all day, everyday, I'd be pissy too." But I never feel bad for them. They literally chose their career. If they hate it so much there are other options. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️

Thank you so much for the motivation, for your positivity and encouragement. I really don´t know what else to say and for some reason, I´m tearing up a bit while writing this... Words can´t really describe how much I appreciate all the work you put into these vlogs. I wish you the best of luck. And also, let me just end this comment with one more thank you because you deserve it.

@@Jayjenk07 we may have huge different process coz' I'm from the PHILIPPINES. Just like America, after graduating from undergrad in nursing and passing my licensure nursing exam, we also took an MCAT( we call them NMAT) then apply to medschools. I also did some volunteer work, leadership task and some research during my undergrad that will also help in my application. Then interview... And waiting for a med school to accept me. Being a nurse have a huge advantage in Medschools especially with clinical application because we already knew drugs, illnesses, physical assessment and other nursing skills. But I had a rough time with science based courses such as Biochemistry and Histology. :( But it is very doable. It's not impossible, tho it's very pricey. Godblessm

I was a physician in my country, immigrated to the USA a year ago. Started working at McDonald's, then as a doctor's assistant 6 months later. I wish I could become a doctor here, but by the time I go home- there is no time to study for the steps. So many of us get sucked into that vortex every year... I wish I could get back to Med school again, study my heart out, come out as the doctor in the end, not having to survive barely with the minimum wage. I love your vlogs, they give me the motivation to want to stay strong and focus. Love for you and blessings!

May God Keep you safe and give you the necessary strength that is needed to with stand such obstacle.

Fav video so far....just to clarify most ED nurses are assigned 4 beds, how many pt's they see is determined by how many pt's check in/out of those 4 beds...some can stay for the full shift, some beds have pt changes every hour or so... In San Diego with a high homeless population most ED nurses have new pt's every 2/3 hours in each of the 4 beds..which is insanely busy :)

Just a note about us nurses... We do get to leave right when the shift is over, but the charting is aaaaaaaaallll day everyday. Like every stinking thing. So if you get behind, you're staying later. I'm sure all departments are different, but ED handoff is probably a lot different than handoff on another floor because they are acute cases. So glad you got to see more of what nurses do. You da best, America

Hi America! You mentioned you were unsure of nurses charting. I'm a nursing student in Australia and an aspiring MD. I thought I'd leave some information here for you (or anyone else interested) to help understand the nurse's role further. Nursing progress notes detail the various happenings of the shift - how the patient is, their clinical observations, any procedures that have taken place, anything that has gone wrong, etc. Everything the nurse does should generally be charted. Then there are the bowel charts, fluid balance charts, falls risk scores, pressure injury risk scores, care plans - detailing everything you'd need to know before caring for them, are they independent, do they have mobility issues, are there any alerts on their file. Medications and observations also have to be given/taken and charted appropriately. Some areas will also have ward specific documents. I am 100% sure I am forgetting a whole bunch, but in ACT, Australia they are the main ones.

ER doctors have pretty much the same schedule with nurses. Once you are out you absolutely have no call. Work for 12 hours, 3 shifts per week, and then off for rest of the week. "As far as I know they dont have to worry about being on call" girl!! I've always known nurses to usually be required to take call days- unless maybe their dept is super well staffed & have plenty of PRNs but even then. They have call weekends they are sometimes required to take too. My mom has been a nurse for...40 yrs now I think? I dunno if she has ever had a job that hasnt required call. Also it's def not true that nurses usually dont have to stay or can just go home. Sometimes you're fortunuate to get a well staffed, properly managed & funded company or dept where you have PRNs and everything is set up so that is true. But in some hospitals that can even vary even dept by dept. But man...my mom has worked for companies where she was constantly working 16+ hour shifts or worked 13 hrs & got called back in at 2am. Some companies and hospitals have a worser reputation for that than others. You are def fortunate as a nurse if you land in a dept that is well staffed, has PRNs and good management to keep it all flowing nicely. It really is different with every single hospital, depts within hospitsls, independent company, clinic etc. I will say too nurses have less patients because they have to give so much constant direct care and be ready for anything. Like in in patient settings, if you have say critical care patients or patients on dialysis there are many situations as a nurse where you just have to stay right with that patient. But, I do love the recognition for nurses & that you're so open to working with them and esp learning from them! And was very excited for a new video!

Thank you so much for sharing this perspective on nursing! I’ve been on the pre med route since high school and now as a junior in college I’m switching to nursing and it’s so reassuring to hear this perspective
