When I lived in Japan in the 80’s , I loved the stationary and the pens, oh my , the writing instruments they had, I still have some. I loved Doraemon so I have lots of Doraemon stuff still and I’m way older than the 17 yr old I was back then. Japan will always hold a special place in my heart. I remember very little of the Japanese I learned but would love to go back someday.

you can put the kelp noodles in a bowl with lemon and baking soda for a couple minutes and it’ll soften them right up! then just rinse them and add them to whatever dish you’re making :3 I didn’t like the chewiness of the noodles, but then I found this tip and find the texture a lot better and nicer!

Yeah I find doing that and then sometimes even pre-cooking them after soaking and rinsing (like 1-2 min in the microwave or in a dry pan) before adding to a dish really helps with the texture! After that they'll be much better to eat :)

When you used to be busy everyday, quarantine is a great way to relax, chill and do what you love to do at home. It is so comforting to see you watch tv, eating good food, play some games, after a stressful time about your health - you really deserve to have a nice relaxing bath. That fruit is called Persimmon. It is not overly sweet and great texture. My eyes were so close to the screen when you had that vege meal, it looked amazing.

Hey Sharla! I’ve had those kelp noodles a couple of times. The first time I didn’t prep them properly so here is a prep tip I found if you want them to have noodle texture and not be crunchy: soak them in water, juice of one lemon, and 1 tbsp baking soda. Mix it together and you will feel the texture of the noodles change if you use your hands. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, testing a noodle to see if it’s ready. Finally, rinse the mixture thoroughly off of the kelp noodles in a strainer. If any mixture remains, they might become mushy because the mixture is still working. I was amazed how much more amazing they were, and easier to eat and work with after doing this! Enjoy 😊

I got so into this vlog that I kept forgetting that I am not in quarantine, myself, and I am allowed to go outside and it’s Saturday morning. 👀 This might sound weird, but the “forced coziness” of quarantine is something that I’ve gotten so used to that it feels normal. I was working from home for 1.5 years (till August) and I got so used to making the most of the situation. I still haven’t figured out how to “undo” that mentality and go out more. Thank you for vlogging! It’s always so enjoyable to see what you’re up to. . . And aesthetically pleasing omg

Hey Sharla, I know you're probably so tired of people telling you things about your lack of thyroid, but just something to be aware of: If you're feeling forgetful and finding that you do start blanking on things more often it is a sign of myxoedema - You may also notice you hands, face, eyes and ankles swelling up. Get yourself to an endo chyrnologist and just see about a thyroid replacement hormone, it's called euthyrox, and Levothyroxine where I'm from. You may already be on something, but just get your levels checked as they do fluctuate. Also, vitamin e oil for the scar once the scabs are better. I think I said last time, mine goes from the left of my jaw all the way down to the right of where my thyroid was, but you can barely see it anymore.
@AntiNexus13 жыл бұрын
Sorry, PS - depending on what you're given, you may want to cut back on soy a little bit. Perhaps switch to almond milk and cut down on the soy sauce - Some thyroid replacements can cause liver cancer down the line when combined with a high soy diet. Just check with the doctor.

(Sorry in advance for what's probably going to be way too long of a comment.) I suddenly felt very nostalgic watching this video, I don't know why, maybe because it was nice and quiet and relaxing? But I realised that I went to Japan for the first time in 2014 and I was already watching your channel back then because you were what inspired me to go in the first place. That's 7 years, probably closer to 8 years of watching your channel, and watching it grow and evolve, and seeing you grow and evolve too (obviously you'd do that in 8 years). I don't know if I have a point to this, but it just amazed me that I've "known" you for this long. And thanks to you I also discovered other japan creators, like Norm and Chris, and Rachel and Jun, and it's built me this nice little corner of the internet where I can come when I want to feel a bit more connected to the world and vicariously travel through Japan (especially now). So yeah, not really a point to this comment, but I am very grateful that I clicked on that first Sharla in Japan video back then, whichever it may have been because I can't remember. But it must have been a good one :-).

I read that for the kelp noodles to soften them try soaking it in hot tap water and keep an eye on it for your desired consistency. It also said don't use boiled water because it can get too soggy. Also the kelp noodles reminds me of glass noodles and I usually soak them in warm water before cooking them. Hope that helps.

The fruit that is tomato-like we call it Caqui (/kaki/) or Palosanto in Spain, they are crunchy and slightly chewy when not fully ripe (at least here) and they are almost like marmalade on the inside when they are, they can be eaten even with a spoon when they have fully ripened and then they taste as sweet as honey, in case you didn't know how different they can be in texture and taste depending on when you eat them ☺️ As always, love the content and your dedication and effort you put on your videos!
