Hi! Love the vlogs and the pineapple dress is sooo pretty!! Love it! About the movies, I'm surprised a beautiful mind was not added to the list. It's the best schizophrenia movie I've ever seen. Also, Requiem for a Dream is the best/scariest movie I've seen about addictions in general. I learned a lot from it but also left me a little bit scared lol Thank you for you videos, always helpful, positive and inspiring :)

I really enjoyed A Beautiful Mind as well! I haven't watched Requiem for a Dream but I've heard great things. I think those movies probably have been on the list in the past or will be on the list in the future since they do cover some great psych themes. thanks for stopping by and saying hello :)

I feel like Fight Club is absolutely a case of dissociative identity disorder, but that has already been covered by Seven. My second guess would be major depressive disorder developing into bipolar disorder (mixed episode), possibly with grandiose delusions? It's been a while since I've seen these movies! I would also recommend Secret Window. :)

Could you talk more about research/ how necessary it is to do in college? I'm not particularly fond of working in a lab but I heard that it is something med schools look for?
@failyourwaytothetop8 жыл бұрын
On a personal note: Is it difficult having a relationship with someone who is not in med school? Many doctors marry doctors. My cousin an anesthesiologist married a pediatrician. Two nephrologists I drove for married each other. Two family residents I knew also the same. I wonder if that would eventually be a stress point due to the huge differential. Wage differences, work differences, position differences etc
@TheStrivetoFit8 жыл бұрын
I think it probably depends on the couple. I don't know the exact statistics but my guess is there are just as many if not more doctors who are married to non-physicians. Some doctors say it's nice to be married to someone who understand their work, etc and others say it's nice to come home and talk to someone who has an entirely different set of interests and a career that's their own. I'm sure there are pros and cons to both sides.
@failyourwaytothetop8 жыл бұрын

Love your vlogs! So inspiring! Thanks for taking the time to share all this info! I am starting med school in a couple weeks- can you offer one piece of advice?? Do you recommend taking all notes through notability? I always comment but never get a response :( I know you are so busy though! :)
@TheStrivetoFit8 жыл бұрын
So sorry for missing your comments before! I think notability is great for keeping all your lectures (pdfs and power point slides) together and organized but I found myself not really looking through them again except when I wanted to look something up specifically. This is mostly because some professors have lectures that are 100+ slides and it's hard to keep track of what's actually important, etc. I came up with a system that turns lengthy power point slide lectures into compact "packets" that are much easier to look through and take notes on. I'll be posting that video next week so stay tuned!

Hi ! I'm doing hospital work experience this week. Do you have any advice of what to take notes on and how to make the most out of it? Thank you!!
@TheStrivetoFit8 жыл бұрын
you probably don't need to take "notes" while you're at the hospital-- just observe the physician-patient interactions and think of questions you might want to ask whoever you are shadowing. To prepare, you can look up some common illnesses or disorders that people come in with for the floor or the type of physician you are shadowing (eg hypertension, diabetes, coronary artery disease, etc)

Do you have to do research during medical school? If so is it difficult to balance with the rest of your med school work?
@Draw4Dame8 жыл бұрын
^
@TheStrivetoFit8 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how it works for other schools, but for my school the summer after 1st year is a good time to get the bulk of the research work done. I did a little bit of work during my second year but it was totally manageable. It depends on the project and the PI though. students who want to go into certain competitive fields end up taking a year off to do research (usually between 3rd and 4th year)

I'm doing my last year of high school and I've decided I want to study medicine. I'm from the UK and was hoping to do my undergrad here then go to med school in the US and I was wondering if there were a lot of opportunities for international students? Hope you can help :)

from what I've heard, it's much harder for international students to get into US medical schools. I'm not an expert in this topic by any means though so check out student doctor network forums for more info!
