"São Paulo is half of the size of New York" Okay, let's stop right there. SP is, in fact, larger than New York and is the biggest city in the Western Hemisphere. That's true both in terms of the city proper (11.8 million against 8.7 million) and in terms of the metro area (23 million against 21 million). What Swedish Gringo did was compare SP the city proper to the whole NY metro area, which is an apples-to-oranges comparison.
