nothing, the bot has two sensors on either side of it's face, like eyes, and the relay compares how much light is being picked up by both, and goes towards the stronger.

This little robot works by detecting light levels via two Light Dependent Resistors (eyes). Increasing the level of light on one eye increases that eye's resistance, causing the wheel on that side to turn slower and thus the robot turns towards the light. if light levels are roughly equal on both eyes, the robot will move roughly forward, otherwise, it will move towards the more intense area of light.

Meh, so I don't know you. If you are watching these videos you are at least mildly interested in engineering because thats what they are. You should expect to pay something for it, I mean it is audio transferred on a laser signal that we are talking about here. For that matter there are plenty of low cost projects from MAKE. Don't go complaining just because the one you wanted to do costs $99+.
@MikeTheAnnoying16 жыл бұрын
The robot Brie made was solar powered, not light seeking. It moved significantly more slowly because it would sit in the sun until it had enough energy to move, and then make a half second movement and half to stop. It automatically moved toward light because of its diode's positioning. Herbie, on the other hand, is powered by a nine volt, as as such is a pretty regular car-like robot. It just has the diodes that make it follow light.

it's true though. They have gradually turned into an appliance store instead of the humble hobby shop they used to be. They should at least make specialty "radioshack" stores for hobbyists. They could call them invention labs instead of just making up shallow websites that take advantage of the web2.0 social fad. Also, in canada, all the radioshack stores were bought and renamed "La Source" which is bawls because they only stock NexXtech when it comes to electronic/micro-electronic equipment.

I like whiskers. You can see how useful they are when you make things, they work exactly how they do in animals. I remember i was trying to program a car boss in a video game, i made sensor lines in front of it to sense your car so it can chase you, they were just like whiskers. Kinda interesting, parallel invention

Hey I just build a Herbie...when I switch it on in the dark the motors run fast CONSTANTLY, they never stop. Are they supposed to do that or only when I switch on the flashlight for him to follow? Anybody out there know this answer??
