Feels like Metal Slug has a lot of DNA from this game, between the flame thrower/shotgun/knife and the being to ride in a vehicle. I would have loved to have this back in the day. Got nostalgic feelings of watching my brother beat bosses when we were kids watching you try to beat that boss.

I have an Avenue pad somewhere. It was bundled with my first pc engine duo. I should pull it out and give it a spin. The riding on motorcycles and pinpoint precision while riding cracks me up. I'm loving the steady stream of videos!

The TG-16 was such an underrated system. I really enjoyed it and should have been more successful than it was. Very much enjoying your looks at various video games and/or controllers. Take care and keep up the great and amazing work.

Love me some Bloody Wolf. I never really thought about Bloody Wolf benefiting from a 3 button pad but I guess it would make sense for getting off a motorcycle easier. It's great being able to designate an extra button to be used for Select or Start on the Avenue pad 3. I've had a few Blaster pads. They work well but the case is a bit narrow(top to bottom) compared to an avenue 3. So some may not like the controller shape.

Another excellent episode in this series. I’ve never seen passed that knife fight boss before so was cool to see. Love that pad it’s my standard pad for the system. People who compare this game to contra confuse me the same as those that compare Dungeon Explorer to Gauntlet.

Only 10 mins in and enjoying this video, great point about the functionality vs the AVP6 - I recall the disappointment when I got Forgotten Worlds and thought I was using my mind that the AVP6 would not function as an AVP3, seems a missed opportunity!

One argument for the OG 2 button PC Engine pad... It can be serviced. It uses the same membranes as the Famicom / NES (with slight modification) If you need to replace the membranes on the 3/6 you may be SOL as theres no specific replacements available. You might be able to hack and cobble something together but it won't feel the same as when it was new.

I've had the Ave pad 3, 6 as well as the arcade pad 6 and never had a problem with the arcade one. I still use it with my duo rx. I did prefer using the ave pad 3 for forgotten worlds over using either of the 6 button ones but i no longer have the ave pads so i use the duo rx arcade 6 for forgotten worlds just fine. I know the d-pad on it is not as good as other tg/pce pads but it grows on you (or it did me).

Nice look into these PCE titles. The Ave 3 pad is great, also using the Ave 6 is the only good way to play SF2 on PCE. Great that the Ave 3 was available for use in its excellent port of Forgotten Worlds but is so versatile for other games, its the reason I got mine. Nice one 👋

Bloody Wolf was fun. TG16 didnt have a lot of games like that. I couldnt put it down. And yes, it was a weekend rental from a mom and pop store called Radical Video Games

I obuhgt avenue pad 3 alogniside my first pc engine and everdrive for it. It was really cool when I stumbled a cross bloody wolf by chance, and noticed the 3 button support for it. Much much better game with avenue pad 3

I'm still pisst that Ys IV: The Dawn of Ys wasn't translated and released here in the U.S. Ys: Book I and II and Ys III: Wanderers from Ys were so good...and to this day are the only games in the series that I've played. P.S. They really should've included Bloody Wolf in the TG-16 mini.

Polymega sells a 6 button PCE controller. I own their NES variant and it's more or less a premium experience so I assume the PCE one would be a well.

I think I own this game but I've never seriously played it. In my mind I always get it confused with Last Alert. It's weird that people call this the TG-16 Contra. It reminds me way more of Mercs or Rambo III. Really digging that Martini Racing hoodie, btw. Definitely one of my fave livery themes.

Unless those who say Contra are referring to the motive, a lone guy with a machine gun shooting everything on sight, etc, this game is somewhat similar to Rambo III on the Mega Drive, but only in certain parts as it features jumping and riding bikes, etc.

Excellent. Love me some PC Engine and Bloody Wolf is a game I’ve yet to play. But I do have two Ave 3 pads, they’re pretty great. Yet I still find myself preferring the standard two button pads.

Nice history on NEC Avenue, didn’t know their role. I got an Avenue 3 with my Core Grafx, but last time I tried it I think the auto fire has hung itself. Too bad, I did use it for Barunba.

You might try opening the controller and cleaning all of the contacts on the board and the rubber domes, if you haven’t already.

It’s just a physical adapter that’s needed. Look for a PCE to TG16 controller adapter.
