If you actually look at the video slowed down the ball touches MacAllister before it touches Doku. For the VAR refs not to call Michael Oliver to the screen is crazy and I also don't understand how he didn't ask the VAR refs about the situation more considering it happened right infront of him.
@tomwilko78418 ай бұрын
I thought that because the touch u mention is with macs arm the var may have taken it as handball...it was by his side but he definitely attempted to control it with his arm....it's the only reason I can think of to not send the ref to the screen
@yoditan8 ай бұрын
@@tomwilko7841 The reasoning for it not being given is that Doku touched the ball first and MacAllister goes in. But there are so many things wrong with that. MacAllister has every right to challenge for the ball, Dokus high foot is dangerous play and he commits a foul by hitting him in the chest. The guy's faces lit up, they run up to Gary ask to shake his hand and Gary was so polite and nice to them. They pretty much then followed him around Tesco for the rest of his shop asking to shake his hand again too, but Gary stayed so polite with them. Anyway the memory of Gary trying to do his Tesco shop while being followed by 3 drunk guys will forever make me laugh.

Liverpool FC really needs to address the biased treatment from the Football Association. They've been unfairly disadvantaged three times this season in crucial matches that could decide the title. Similar injustices occurred in previous seasons, like the Rodri handball incident and the non-penalty call against Leicester City involving Kaita. This level of corruption is unprecedented. The owners, FSG, should take action, (maybe they won't because it might not make business sense for them) I'm contemplating canceling my TV subscription and boycotting the English Premier League entirely due to the blatant corruption. Liverpool should demand a replay of the Tottenham game as it's stipulated in the football regulations. Btw I Honestly think Klopp decided to walk away from Liverpool FC because of the rampant corruption in the EPL. The man has given his all, and if that's not enough due to the league's shady dealings, then what more can he do?

I think to add to the point Gary made about, it being important that Man City and Liverpool have won the title recently, but Arsenal haven't is important when it comes to. What I would call "the transition". During the first part of the season, winning by 4 or 5 goals is great. And is a real confidence booster.. But, grinding out a sneaky one-nil. On a cold Tuesday night in Stoke is more important.. That's where Ancelotti during his Chelsea title winning season was a master.. Towards the end of the season, scoring and shutting up shop.. Arsenal became unstuck last season. Because people may point to "well they won, THESE games from losing positions". But going one nil down, twice in the same season, in the first minute of the game. Isn't fantastic..
@syc25438 ай бұрын
Which is one of the better improvements this season. Teams aren't targeting the first minutes like Bournemouth last season, and a few teams. Then the control. First half of the season, you could see the slow start was deliberate to keep the games contained and controlled. Now the handbrake is slightly released but we aren't conceding much. Hell aside from Willock's goal everything else could be chalked up to errors from Arsenal which can be wiped out. Teams are creating next to nothing. The Porto and City games will define how we handle Villa, UTD and Spurs away. If we win the first 2, the confidence boost for the next 3 will be immense. Chelsea will be at home so am quietly confident of that one. Fingers crossed we win it. Usher in the new era (No ETH jinx😂)

As a kid growing up in USA IN 90s.. everyone played soccer. And unless u had a crazy/different coach EVERYONE played in a 4-3-3. So 3 defenders.. 3 midfielders.. and 3 forwards. And a sweeper or stopper. We had zero idea what a wingback, holding midfielder, false 9, etc etc was

Easy to say City should've done better because we were missing players, but this completely undervalues the quality of their replacements. Kelleher should not be back up, he's just incredibly unlucky with who is in front of him. Bradley has arguably been only second to White since coming into the team. He's going to be a great player. Quansah just seems to have no problem playing senior football. Best compliment you can give him is I don't sigh when I see him starting. Gomez has been better than Robertson this season. After going through a tough patch, he's back to looking like a quality player. Endo, we need to talk about this guy. One of the best value for money signings we've made in years. He's absolutely incredible, I love the guy so much. All of them could start the remaining games I still feel confident we would win the majority of them.

I'm sure the pitches and the increased physical output from players are factors in increased injuries for sure like Micah and Gary are saying, but also you have to speak of the scheduling as well. The last three years have been bad because of COVID, the postponed Euros, the missed international breaks and the mid season World Cup, but in general I think over the last decade the length of the players' end-season breaks have got shorter, which is bound to have an effect on the players' physical condition as well. I've only been following football since 2011 so I can't speak for the situation before, but the work load of some of these players seems ridiculous - we've seen players clock 4000-5000 minutes in a season for club and country which is a lot.

Just about the two-footed question. Micah makes a great point about Messi and Maradona, but I do think the asker was emphasising training both from a very young age, rather when you're already an adult, given that it's much easier to learn when you are very young, like with languages. It is a very good question to ponder over. On the one hand you give players that extra versatility and unpredictability against their opponent, but on the other, players like Messi adapted to their one-footedness so brilliantly that changing their whole style of play to become two-footed could ruin their development/undermine their potential because that one-footedness just feels so natural for them that you'll be forcing them into something that for some or other reason doesn't suit their game as well.

12:23 any other time or position on the pitch that would be a red card just because it was in the last min of the game VAR bottled it out of possible backlash One of our players got a red card for a high foot like that and he didn't even catch him like doku did..

As much as I think VVD is the best cf in the world, I can't compare him to any great defender in the past. As great a finisher Haaland is, can you imagine if that was R9 running at VVD? The body faints the step overs, would've put him on his ass. But VVD is class

When judging players from different eras, if you don’t look at it relatively, the current player will always be the best. The world and football is constantly moving - the game is different. Rio couldn’t have handled the pace of today’s game. He couldn’t. Terry, Vidic, Campbell, et al, none of them could so van Dijk could be considered the best based on that. However, it’s nobody’s fault when they were born. If van Dijk was BORN 20 years earlier, he wouldn’t have developed into the player he is in today’s game. So, you have to judge players relatively against their own era. In that respect, players like Ferdinand and Terry made more of a sustained impact on the game. They were better players for their era than van Dijk is for his era, so i would go with them. That said, we’ll never be able to see the older players, including much older players, player against the current era, so it might be better to say that the best of that era are just as good (not worse, not better) than the current era and just leave it at that. Christ, I think Alan Hansen is up there with the best ever and nobody ever even mentions him!

Pundits absolutely do not know all the current Laws of the game. Because the Laws do change from year to year even referees that do not keep them selves up to date will quickly fall behind. If this lot only understood the Laws from when they last played they would be surprised just how many changes and modifications have occurred. Just as important as knowing the current Laws is knowing and understanding the considerations for determining the severity of a foul. Many pundits only rely on their gut feeling and their experience playing and watching the game. And those are paramount as to reaching an opinion but it is better to be able to use the language of the Laws and the list of considerations to support your ultimate opinion. Gary makes of a perfect example here when he states "I think it was just about maybe a foul." Crikey, what conviction. He is correct though in that if we all take a vote with top level referees in one group, top level players in another, top level coaches and the decisions will be across the board from absolutely yes, absolutely now to everything between. And all of those may be able to be justified. The Laws of the Game often state, "in the opinion of the referee". The referee on the field has a second(s) to anticipate a challenge, obtain the best angle to view, determine the mode of contact and with all the considerations of what is a foul and/or misconduct apply judgment. VAR is now a safety net in only Critical Match decisions and as Gary alludes, VAR in many incidents can justify the decision on the field, or not definitively suggest to the referee to look and reverse it. Gary's own statement is fine enough but an excellent pundit and referee for that matter needs the skills to understand, identify and apply the considerations (those minute details) Gary speaks of. Knowing the Laws in its self is simply not enough. Gary mentions the Laws can often be vague. Well the Laws are actually quite Black and White however, there is often situations that make the decision making much more Grey. When this occurs the considerations allow us to move toward either side of the black or white shade wheel. What makes the game even more subjective and quite often more beautiful is applying the Spirit of the Game. Where a situation may occur and applying the Laws solely as they are written in black and white we can miss the plot all together. The Laws of the Game actually even state the importance of the Spirit of the Law. Excellent referees should not break the Laws or ignore them all together but there are times where the laws may be bent. The simplest of example is the free kick shall be taken at the spot where the offense occurred. That is the Law, however the Spirit is if the defender places it 5-6 meters away from the spot and puts into play to a teammate nearby well there is no harm or advantage gained so why would you want to enforce the Law exactly as it is writ?

I find it weird that we have all the mentions of Liverpool showing how to play against City (they did particularly well), but nobody mentions Villa Park where City got completely outclassed all game and actually lost

The reason people always mention Rio, Terry etc is because of the quality of attacks they faced being far superior

I’m not a Liverpool fan or city fan but my god that was a penalty anywhere on the pitch that’s a foul and you can’t for 1 second tell me if that was a Liverpool player kicking haaland like that in the box it would be a pen every single day that would be a pen for them but becuase they need to keep city in the title race they didn’t give it pathetic stuff I said straight away to the people around me var would not give that becuase it’s Man City and they didn’t give it absolutely no balls whatsoever in var, refs and the leading people at the premier league pathetic
