SNL is like that; it'll be really strong for awhile then all your favorite people leave or they get new writers, and there's a rebuilding year or two. After watching the last couple episodes it kinda rejuvenated my love for the show.

I have a friend from south london and his slang words were so funny to me because they were so random. “Pants,” in this sketch just meaning rubbish/shitty. There's nothing wrong with Afrofuturism - that's been a thing since the 60s, and was responsible for everything from Sun Ra to Funkadelic to the invention of electro in The Bronx, house in Chicago, and techno in Detroit. Afrofuturism is simply imagining what black culture might be like in the future, i.e. black science fiction, and then creating new art based on that. What DeSantis opposes is CRT (neo-Marxism & intersectionality), not African or Black studies. It's very instructive, for example, to learn the history of leaders in post-colonial Africa, and note that many of them were either communist or fascist-style despotic dictators. But I doubt that a CRT class would tell you that.

When SNL at some point ends (and as it closes in on 50 years, it will at some point, there's been talk), Weekend Update should become its own independent series. Thirty or sixty minutes of "news" with even more "interviews" and "in-depth features." The writing staff could put all their energy into these excellent newscasts instead of their hit-or-miss sketches. Current week leads the first half-hour, then previous week repeats the second half-hour. How about it, NBC?
