Thanks for sharing Peter. Some Chinese collectors don't care, it is real if it is sold in the States.... The market is unreal now, prices are sky high, antiques from yesterday...

Thank you for another excellent video! That vase is most likely to emerge again in Hong Kong or some major sales in China.

I have a feeling Peter that the guy who bought the fake vase knew that it was not real, but he might have appreciated it to the amount of 360K. As you say it could have taken the makers years to produce one in such a high quality, so why not.

No he made the fake... He mentions it on KZbin to thow off the officials. He's like an arsonist who shows up after setting a fire and then talks to the cops about how the fire may have started. No I'm just kidding... But one can fantasize...

If it's a modern fake, it's the best damn fake I've ever seen.

It's obviously a fake and obviously a very good one. Tang Ying was known for this kind of work, and for things like this vase he wouldn't have made more than one in the same exact pattern. Best Peter

Comparing the fake vase to the Sotheby's vase is a GREAT example of differentiating the QUALITY of a piece. If at any time a vase is made with a pair it is almost always a mirror reflection with minor variations NOT a identical (poorly painted at that) design lay out copy cat. You can really see the quality in the sgraffiato ground in the real one, the fake one is so glaringly harsh. The colours are, of course, poor and watery, the real one looks mind blowingly eye catching and stunning. Great spot Peter!

I absolutely love that Chinese vase from France. I purchased something similar that was made with decals in Jingdezhen a couple months ago just so I could own something that looks like that. I spent only 100 dollars for three of them. I don't want something that looks that identical.

Someone may be out of $360k but it is more likely that someone laundered that money with the seller of the vase..

5:29 the reign mark on the right (fake) seems pretty large especially considering further back in the photo than the one on the left. Also notice how crooked a lot of the pieces making up the reign mark are especially lower bottom. The yellow is washed out on the right vase and the circles lack color. Black Outline is very weak on right. The blue and green over the yellow has no outlining. Why wouldn’t they’ve made it more spectacular than the original in terms of detail and color if you wanted to convince people? It feels as if who ever copied it was used to coloring and drawling a later period?

I believe items sold on Live Auctioneers as “competing bid,” is not an actual sale.

So Peter, based on the quality of the fake vase, do you think the original estimate of a couple of grand was a fair price?

Enjoyed your very informative video like always. I just found out about your new venture or website and am wondering how you might treat buyers as we know who try and get hundreds of dollars off because of imaginary cracks nips frits what have you? I want to comment on your comments on the Qianlong imperial vase, of course you are very like correct that it is a copy and a good copy and in the art world high quality copies do sell for fractions of the original and if the real one sold for 20 million US, 360K for a good quality copy is almost a steal. I am sure the buy knew they were buying a good copy. As long as there are only 3 and maybe 4 or another copy and no more, it's still a rarity and valuable and would sell for a profit next week, but in a year, a good profit. Thanks very much for sharing all you know about all the different items involved in Chinese art.

Hello Joe, It's been a while, I hope all is well with you in the sunny south. Regarding nit picking and imaginary cracks, they will be dealt with on a common sense basis, and will want legitimate proof of having been mislead. Troublesome users won't be tolerated, its just that simple. As you know we've done tens of thousands of transactions in China, I think we're up to being fair and rationale with folks. We expect the same form everyone. Good to hear from you, best Peter

@@PeterCombs hi peter, good to hear back, ebay just found in favor of my buyer who extorted me and and have to refund 600 and change. it's very frustrating to have to deal with this kind of stuff, I'm sure you understand. I will checking out how to list on your new selling platform soon. Thanks again, be well.

You can use the Bidamount ID service. It's only $12 for an evaluation. Go to the Bidamount website. Or you can study Chinese porcelain for many years and decide for yourself,

Is catawiki pretty reliable for authenticity? I had never heard of it until started watching this series and it seems like there’s a lot of nice inexpensive pieces. Also does anyone have any experience purchasing from catawiki in the US in regards to customs fees coming in to the states? Thanks!

Na your right I seen items are cheaper than eBay, but only problem is that it’s in Germany, so shipping to USA is pricey, when your spending $40 on item and shipping is $45 shame..
