Weekly Crop, Ep. 34 - Panasonic S1 New V1.2 Firmware and SFU2 Vlog Upgrade

** CORRECTION: The v1.2 firmware is free of charge. Users have to pay to get the Vlog software package enabled in their camera. Panasonic is offering Vlog free of charge for users for the month of July (2019). Additionally the v1.2 firmware is available for the S1R but not the Vlog software.
In this week's Weekly Crop we dive into the new Firmware 1.2 for the full frame monster mirrorless, the Panasonic S1. We touch on all the new updates, and go deep into the exciting addition of V-log with video samples.

Thanks for these fantastic tests! The magenta you referred to from the S1 VLog is of course very evident; in looking at it however it seems like it wouldn't take much for a fix as far as adjusting the magenta hue. Would you conclude with having played around with the footage that that is an accurate assessment or am I viewing it too simplistically? Am currently waiting on my VLog upgrade key to arrive and am very excited to get going with some footage from it

Hi Sam - sure, a competent colourist could fix this easily. There are also others who don't seem to have as much problems with skin tones as I have. Maybe tweaking the in-camera settings can help this along as well. I just shot straight out of the box.

How do we get to access the 4k 10 bit 422 50p option if it is not available to choose in the recording options. I have a Ninja V and have set the HDMI output to be in 422 10 bit. Thanks in advance

When is the firmware v log upgrade being released? I know the V1.2 firmware is available for download on the Panasonic website but that doesn’t do anything as for as any of the features.

The firmware is free - so you can download it now. The Vlog key needs to be purchased through a retailer.

hey man, i'm Toky and i'm from Madagascar I just want to know few things if you let me: _ can you in the future make a video tutorial that will show how/where to get/purshase the new firmware upgrage _ how to install it on my S1 camera i need those LOG profil so bad i ask all that because i'm not used to do it, it's the first time i get a panasonic camera, thanks in advance.

Hi Toky. The firmware is available on Panasonic's website. You should just be able to do an internet search for it. The LOG option is a pay-for upgrade that is separate from the firmware (which is free). You have to purchase the V-log upgrade from an authorised retailer. They will send you a physical product that contains a code and specific instructions on installation. Good luck!

Hi Luisneumannp, that's definitely not your monitor. It's the colours that existed in my grade. I didn't at all swing the shadows toward green - so they may have been there in the colour science of the image. That said, it's not entirely implausible that I did something accidentally in the grade and didn't realize it. I would, as usual, look at several image samples from several other people to see if it pops up again. Otherwise, it's likely some type of anomaly.

@@vistek Thanks for the answer. My G85 does something similar when I try to lift shadows and dark areas of the image. It doesn't matter if its in photo or video mode, it just gets greener and greener. Did you notice on any occasion on the S1? Because that would totally be a no-go and a reason to look at the a7III instead

I thought the colors on the girl's face looked better on the Sony. Which is a shame, because I have the S1 and have been with Pany since GH2. I love the user friendliness and superb features Pany has but prefer the Sony colors

Sorry - I used a manual focus lens, and I pulled my back out recently, which caused me to lean forward out of the focal area. Thanks for putting up with my slightly out of focus face. Hot tip: if you watch on your mobile device, it's far less noticeable.
