We made great strides getting the native berm planted last week. The woodland is very dry and a lot of plants are suffering.

In southeastern PA we had a very dry spell last year in May-june, and the Packera aurea died back and stayed dormant for the rest of the season. I was afraid it had died, but this spring it came back like gangbusters. The blue mist flowers also did OK despite having very shallow root systems. Hopefully your plants will also be ok once some wet weather returns. 🙏

Hi Brie. I was at home depot in apex. They have an area where you can leave plastic pots and trays for others to re use. Im sure they couldnt take all of those trays but maybe some. Also, the forecast for next week looks like rain chances EVERYDAY!!!! Hooray!

The drought stress is frustrating and it doesn’t look like we are getting any rainfall soon. I am guarding my new edgeworthia. I hope yours survive! My sunflowers look amazing though. FYI I just dropped off some pots and trays at Homewood Nursery to be recycled.

Enjoy your trip and maybe it will have rained before you come back.

Have you considered putting in a well just for plant watering? I'm sure that would help out with the water bill, but I'm not sure if the cost of the well would not be worth it. When you have your seed sale, put the plastic plant trays and pots out for your guests to take. That seems like it would be a win for you and those that take them for their use!

We looked infinity and it’s really expensive to install.

Not sure if Fuquay-Varina has a stormwater program - but i know some municipalities will reimburse cistern installations. Maybe a good fit for you if you can get a sufficiently large one with a beefy pump?

Fuquay doesn’t but I’d love to geocache cistern installed under the blue house deck.

In a drought, is it helpful to cut back plants by half so they need less water? Maybe, if you do it before it gets dry?

Is there a reason you don't do drip irrigation? You wouldn't have to do it all at once if it's the cost but I think it would save you money on your water bill. I would think it's much easier than what you are doing with the sprinklers.

Drip does not work well when ground plane coverage is your focus. It’s fine for trees and shrubs but doesn’t but get the space between those plants watered.
