For years I made my homemade bread by hand, then my husband bought me a Kitchen Aid for Christmas one year and I started using it. This past year our daughter bought me bread machine for my birthday, now i use the bread machine to knead and rise, then I do the final rise in loaf pans and bake. I love doing it that way!

This is the best tortilla recipe i have found in years. My dad is hispanic and we lived in mexico for 10 years while i was growing up. I never mastered tortillas in my adult life until this recipe. The dough is ideal when you keep it warm while resting. I cover with plastic wrap to trap the warmth in while they rest. The colder the dough gets the tougher it is to roll out. I also actually prefer to use a decent amount of flour on the counter while rolling out because it keeps the tortilla from sticking to the counter so it rolls out easier. As long as the dough is kept warm as long as possible and my counter is sufficiently floured to keep them from sticking, they roll out so easy and fast and thin for me. I have 5 kids and have to make a double batch at a time and they still disappear so fast. 😂

Love watching you make all of the things you do from just a basic bread dough! It is just so satisfying yet amazing! Really you should open a bakery in your town…you have a talent! Let’s face it, most people would rather buy these products for one reason or another. Mostly convenience. There was a small bakery in the town my grandparents lived, that they went to go buy a lot of things at( bread, rolls, cookies etc), but the main thing was the fresh French bread. My Aunt lived seven miles away and would go visit them and buy from this small bakery too. This is a dying form of talent…so you could have classes at local churches, schools or rent a place to teach at. Could charge a fee to cover everything needed for class or just do it for free for those in need of saving money. Start small, then go county, then state if you feel that people in your state could use this to help them.

My understanding of bagels is that the “bath” cooks the outside, which limits the expansion of the bagel giving it that signature chewiness.

Hi if you are going to invest in a tortilla press make sure it’s for flour and not corn. The press for flour tortillas needs heat so it needs to be electrical.

I have found that the type of rolling pin I use makes a difference in the thickness of tortillas. I use a really thin, tapered rolling pin I found at a local Indian store. The rolling pin helps me roll out thin tortillas or empanada dough. I saw some similar rolling pins on Amazon. Hope this helps.

@crystalcurtis3771

Your tortillas look beautiful, but my understanding is that you do not want gluten development with your tortilla dough. The gluten would probably kind of bunch it up and make it thicker, even if it was thinner when you rolled it.
