I’ve been struggling with productivity and keeping track of my life in general because I can’t get a system that works for me, I spend most of my day on a computer because of my job (Civil Engineer) and I have put a lot of effort into a digital system and it still not perfect, then I hear the progressive approach mindset and felt like a revelation, I’m going to see a therapist soon and I already feel so much better just by looking to videos like this where young people share their experiences and what works for them, it isn’t perfect because it doesn’t need to be, seeing you being honest about trying and failing multiple times, having the same troubles, reassures me that I’m not alone in this journey, Thanks for your videos!

You’re very welcome Mike! I think that was the biggest takeaway of the video: be okay with constant change and improvements; the system doesn’t need to be perfect in order to work 😄

Hey Candice, I struggled my whole life with school and getting things done. Then I started reading and listening to podcasts and I advocated for myself to get assessed and I was diagnosed with ADHD at 20! I just found your channel and it's super helpful! You have really good content and you're striking.

Hey Carson! Welcome to the club! I’m so glad that you’re part of the community now 🤩 I’m starting to notice a few people in the comments who were diagnosed in their twenties just like you and me; it feels good to be part of this special group and to support each other :) let me know if there is any topic you’d like to hear about on this channel! thank you so much for you support and your kindness ☺️

I was diagnosed 3 years ago at age 51, after a lifetime of struggles. I also had to request evaluation for ADHD, because I strongly suspected it. The diagnosis explained sooo much.

Just paused to comment on 3:41 - my gut tells me that a lot of planner content we see online is NOT actually from neurotypicals, but from *undiagnosed ADHD* people. I say that because most planner people I see online are CONSTANTLY overhauling their entire system and stuck in “bright shiny object syndrome,” chasing after the latest trend, focusing on decor and accessories, brand plugging, and appearance over function. I think a lot of “planner obsessed” people are probably ADHD, whether they realize it or not, and that is the content filling up KZbin and social media.

@@youradhdgirl I’m personally “in recovery” from bright shiny object syndrome. I’m working toward more simplicity and minimalism in all areas of my life, due to ADHD - including planning. If my planner is too complicated, I’ll abandon it instead of using it.

Even neurotypical people revise their planning system so it's OK for us to do it. I have 2 main planners. My Jibun Techo is my messy planner and my A5 Hobonichi is a little neater. I find that writing stuff down helps me remember. But I use both digital and analog tools to function.

Thank you so much! I struggled so hard to make the perfect plan and then I hate myself for falling behind... I haven't yet been diagnosed with ADHD (I just feel it might be the reason behind a lot of my struggles..) so I can't be sure but these methods immediately make sense to me and I feel so elated to try a new approach. Thank you for sharing!

Tbh, I was all on the same page as you until you showed that weekly plan and then my brain went all "NOPE". :D I've got a planner now, finally suited for me and not for neurotypicals :P , but I use it very differently - except for external events (doctor's appointments, parties, dinners with family, whatever), I never plan anything to happen at a specific hour. I use it mostly as a tracker, and to write down things to do that week (without writing down when), or events. Maybe it's my unmedicated for whole life butt talking but if I plan to start working at 10 am, it might happen or might not, depending on the dopamine levels in my brain, or my mood, or when I last time looked at the clock, or anything else. And making it all strictly time-dependant makes just everything more failure-prone because I can't tell if I have time to start this new subtask or not (because of time blindness), and I can easily slip at any moment, if I look away from the clock for too long (or "decide" to ignore it...). Or, what if I want to start working on X when I have Y in the schedule? I need both X and Y done anyway. I can't imagine having everything scheduled like that... I mean I had, in school/uni, but then it was external and I couldn't help it. I *do* have trouble organizing myself, so maybe it's just me, but this is just so abstract :D Of course you do you, if it works for you and is helpful for you, and/or for the audience, then great! I'm happy for you. And a bit envious ;) Also good video, I'm going to watch others from your channel. (Btw I think you might have some small issue with your microphone or sound post-processing because your voice is not as clear as I think it could be, but it's still great quality of a video so don't mind me).

Thanks for the comment Tymon! I’m glad you found your own way of organising your life :) to be fair, everything I said in this video was at a stage of trying things out rather than established and successful which is why I said I would make another video assessing the efficiency of the method. I’ve already started to notice some flaws in the method but also I like some parts of it, like the weekly review on paper which gives me lots of freedom. I also just discovered an app (brand new and shiny for my adhd brain 🤩) which is starting to be a game changer and I might talk about it in another video 😁

@@youradhdgirl I totally get it, I became a preacher for my new and shiny organizer (it's like a planner but with a binder inside, and I bought several types of pages (with different types of content - weekly, daily pages, dotted pages etc.) to fill it, and even plan on either making new ones myself or finding someone to do it for me...), but I only used it for like a month, I have no idea how good it will be after a while, maybe I'll decide it doesn't work either... though now I even integrated some parts of sketchbook (and notes for my Brand New Fanfic Idea), so I guess it might become a swiss knife notebook instead... :P

though question! Really depends on where you live. For me, in France, we have this website called Doctolib that registers every doctor in the country including psychologists and psychiatrists. I looked for someone specialized in adult ADHD because I think that is crucial to get your diagnosis right. Hope this helps!

I need to apologize for being mean. I must have had a bad night when I left this message. I recently found out I had adult ADHD and I'm just researching everything I can for self-help and came across your video. We all have the same goal: to live a better-organized life, understand why we are the way we are, and not be hard on ourselves. I apologize once again.

I think what I meant is to take things easy, one change at a time, see what works and change my habits accordingly. It's a way to say you should put to much pressure on yourself by trying to get it perfect the first time you try basically !

So, I do like your video, and there are very pro-ADHD things but... the time blocking part is an issue for a lot of people who have ADHD. Not only is there time blindness, but time blocking doesn't solve the lack of dopamine obstacle. I can schedule tasks all I want, but if it isn't something that triggers dopamine, that paper scribble doesn't do anything.
