Ooo Watchmen is the one of the selections I'd pick. The arc I'd want to read myself is Green Lantern Darkest Night and Brightest Day.

Persepolis was amazing!!!! Also Zlata's Diary is to the Balkan War as Persepolis is to Iran!! If you end up loving Persepolis, read Zlata…Both books made me realize how lucky I was to have an idyllic childhood here in the U.S.!!

The book that got me into fantasy was Her Majesty's Wizard by Christopher Stasheff. It's a story about a young man from our time who, while doing research for his dissertation in the university library finds a slip of parchment in a book. After trying to pars out what it means, he was transported to an alternate universe where reciting poetry works magic. Some of the characters are amazing. There's a fire breathing dragon who gets drunk on his own flame and had his wings clipped because of it. If you can find that one, it's a great read.

Okay, I was interested in the whole portal fantasy part, but the drunk dragon REALLY sold me on trying to find this one!!!

I found the A Wizard In Rhyme series on Amazon for about $5 each on Kindle. Book 1 is Her Majesty’s Wizard. Book 2 is The Oathbound Wizard.

As much I hate The Empyrean series , I love these editions, they are gorgeous. omg. You are reading Curse! Janny's writing will steal your sleep and the characters will live with you forever, for me , especially Arithon. My favourite fantasy character ever. You are in for a treat, the series gets better and vast and ominous. That cover of The life of Herod the Great is just yum and it has purple shade!

I see what you mean about Curse!!! I've been taking this one so slow...but then around the 65% mark, I've been unable to put it down! I got up early just so I could spend an hour with this one this morning!

So happy for you that you loved Onyx Storm so much!! I gave it a very middling 3 stars, even though I think it was technically the strongest, it just didn't give me the same giddy feels as the first two books. Definitely a diabolical ending though lol And oooh love that Curse of the Mistwraith was such a hit for you!! I am eager to try it. Hope your run went well and you survived hahaha. Sending loveee 🥰

I did survive!!! I just took it easy and ran what I could, walked a little bit here and there...about took out a traffic cone after I had the great idea to dump water over my head to cool off. Turns out you shouldn't close your eyes to do that when you're moving....lol

My weekend was made seeing Ireland win last night's rugby match. I must get back into doing my local 5k. I really enjoyed doing them wasn't as disciplined then. This week I DNFed Brent Weeks' Black Prism (Lightbringer 1) and have Not For Nowed Fugitive Prince (Wars of Light & Shadow 4), i just wasn't giving it the attention it deserved. I'm just not in the mood for long, complex books in a long series that I'm reading for the first time right now. Kinda burnt myself out on Long Epic Fantasy books. Right now, I'd prefer either Fantasy standalones or fantasy books I can treat as standalones. As for what I'm currently reading: *Fantasy* Perdido Street Station / China Miéville - Set in an industrialised gritty city and a disgraced surgeon is helping a humanoid-like birdman(?) fly again. *Historical-Fantasy* River of Stars / Guy Gavriel Kay - Same setting as Under Heaven centuries centuries later. Kitai might be my favourite setting of Kay's books.

Lightbringer is always a mixed bag when people talk about that one. Long epic fantasy, I take in really small bites. I just read through them really slowly and just meander through. As in the case with Wurts, I try to just read one hour's worth a day because I like to pay close attention to what I'm reading and then I like to think about that section for a bit before I bite off another chunk the next day. That was my approach that worked best with Erikson, so I figured it would be a good one here too.
