It’s hard for me because I’m grossing 75k a year with my company. We’re home every weekend (team) I’ve got a 4% 401k match and health care and all that stuff. Don’t have to pay gas, repairs, and if the truck is in the shop for too long we just get another truck until our main truck is repaired. Would be nice to make a little extra money but I’m already saving about 2-3k a month after I pay for my stuff back home. I guess It’s just what you make out of it. And I drive a Mercedes so I can’t really complain.

Sometimes alot of what we do is a lifestyle, not just the money money all the time. Been doing it off and on for 25 YEARS. Lots of maintenance versus just steady good company money. Which definitely pays good these days. Be blessed. Either you love it or your just in the way.....lol.... Get off the fuel island I need to pull up and take my shower now. Love your content. You and DIYSemi, ClutchTrucker. I'm not getting great mudflap prices here in Connecticut. My fuel mileage is not as good in this glider. Averaging 7.2mpg. My buddy in isx15 averaging 8.5 mpg. Emission truck get better mpg. I will tell anyone coming out here the rates will never be like 2021.

It’s a misconception that you save and get better mpg in a new truck with emissions. I shut down this morning or about 14 hrs ago with an avg mpg of 8.5. Now I am getting to roll again after idling to keep cool and I show 6.9 mpg avg. sure it will go up again but at the end of the day when I fuel again I’ll be lucky to avg 7.8 mpg on a full tank. Perhaps an APU would make a difference? Not much to be honest. It will save a little fuel but not much as it also will burn 0.6 gal per hour same as my truck when idling. Where the savings come in is the fact that the APU won’t regen nor burn on avg 3.8 gph when doing so like my truck. But my truck also rarely regens so that’s not an issue or a major fuel loss. Now where you save with a pre-emission or non emission truck. No def fluid, no emission sensors that cost $400 plus to buy the part plus the couple hundred bucks for labor and another hundred or so bucks for the diagnostics. You also don’t have the dpf filter that has to replaced every so often at a staggering $5k plus. What am I driving? 2018 t680 with an x15 Cummins and Eaton 12 speed automated trans. I should be saving a ton in fuel expenses according to the reports on the truck, in all honestly I am spending more in upkeep and maintenance because of the emission system that you don’t have. There’s the real ugly truth to these newer trucks with emission systems. Upfront the mpg is better, but at the end of the day there isn’t much gains in mpg compared to non emission trucks and long term these new trucks will cost you more unless you sale them before they hit 500k miles.

Nothing wrong with making non paying drivers move. If I'm paying ahead of time to park in a spot, I expect a spot to be available when I get there. I have absolutely no issue getting the clerk to make someone move, but that's just me.

Good message that lots of people need to hear - human nature likes to whinge and bitch rather than work it out. The last couple years have been weird and wonderful with ways to make money - heck you were able to make money selling literal digital pixels in the last couple years (NFT's) - and the trucking market was running hot. It was never going to continue those rates. Like you said - it's probably time for a lot of people to recognise they were just chasing a quick dollar and failed at that so maybe time to get out.

Pre emission truck let’s say 379 how much will save just in def ? A year plus all Eletric problems Im sure Costs is pretty much the same. And also just because you have new technology that’s not mean is more reliable!! Plus depreciation etc.

A question from someone outside the business trying to learn something. If you are leased to a carrier, other than allow you to operate under their authority, what else do they do for you for the percentage you pay them? Do they book your loads, give priority to you for higher rate paying customers, etc.?

Depends on the carrier. Mine allows me to use thier trailers, get group discounts and use of thier freight connections they have built over time.

Hello there my name is Samuel and I’m 18 years old. I am a very big fan of trucking and was looking into getting my CDL. I tried calling trucking schools go see if I can get a job at 18 after getting my CDL, but all the school I called told me that they can’t help because I’m too young and most businesses need drivers who are 21 or older. So my question is how can I get a job after getting my CDL license, and would it be possible for me to buy truck and start my own owner operate business at 18???

I had a neighbor from Nigeria for the past few years, being black and a minority his job was secure, so off work hours he went to car auctions and bought $100- junker Honda’s, got them running “again”. with junk yard parts and had them repainted, then resold, he would do about 2 cars a week because his trailer only held one car, he couldn’t make more trips, that was his “car dealer” side hustle in the campground parking lot, during the day he’s a construction welder at the new Nuclear power plant maybe one of his welds will fail and we’ll have a meltdown ? The reason Vogtle 3/4 is 3 years and 20 billion over budget with time and material construction management provided by Bechtal is because the NCR is rejecting quality control documentation 🤔, nothing would surprise me as I look through my window to this world, trying to humble my soul despite situations, meanwhile utility Southern Company CEO Tom Fanning gets $1mm a month with expenses assuring the board everything is fine, right ? We just can’t afford certified welders born in USA anymore, why ? Keep in mind folks from Foreign coutures just say pretend don’t speak English, that’s how they circumvent our society and our politicians allowed this to happen, this is what taxpayer dollars pay politicians to do ? Let’s make the standards of life in America the same as “shithole” Nigeria, that’s how’s it being done and I’m not making this up, it’s first hand reality.

99.9% of Truckers don't understand contract law. They drive with a license, with an unregistered business name, pay income tax they don't owe, bank accounts are setup wrong, they gave false ID to the bank, and operate as the Trustee, when they are actually the Beneficiary of the SSN instead. The definition of a Taxpayer is: a Cesti QueVie Trust. The trust name is the all capital letter name on CDL. That name is not you.......... Wise up drivers. Register your all caps name and be the "name holder". Then not even a Trooper will bother you again, because none of them are registered either.

Good Morning, So I’ll agree and disagree with you respectfully. I believe the issue is fuel not the rates based on a regular typical market and what trucking has been over the years. The Posted rates I agree are garbage in a lot of situations. I believe we all prepare or believe certain times of the year rates will drop a bit (by the way they don’t have to, however like you said if we keep taking the garbage they will continue to offer garbage; good market or bad market) We’ve never seen the rates this high ever in trucking, with that said we’ve never seen fuel this high either. If someone was doing a business plan a few years ago they probably figured at best $2/mi for freight rates and maybe $3.50 max for fuel; just guessing here. I also believe the brokers are stepping on the rates. The best way to negotiate I believe is look at the DOE Website, figure out the FSC (fuel surcharge) and add that to the posted rate prior to calling the broker. Look I’m not saying you will or will not get that rate, but why not try!!!! I also agree with you, we all MUST shoot for the MOON on the rate. Never take what they offer, why? In business it is all about negotiation, when they go to their customer they will negotiate for weeks or months on a lane. So if you want to be taken seriously as a business owner than NEVER take a posted rate. They will have more respect for you & your business if you negotiate in good faith. I expect a certain amount from the broker, if they will not accept that or move from the posted rate, I continue to smile & dial. I know to long again, we’ll I have not commented in a long time. Anyway just my thoughts. Just my perspective as an owner operator and I’ve been a cdl holder since 96’. Stay safe.
