Union Pacific just used the same paint they used on MOW equipment to paint those bridges after the late 60s. Tru-color TCP-312

Good to know. I've gone away from air brushing and instead have been using spray paint from rustoleum, krylon, etc.

you'd be surprised. I'm a conductor for Union Pacific and my regular run is across the Smithville Sub down here in central Texas. Most of our bridges are date stamped 1905-1918 (built by the MKT) and we run 17,000 ton rock trains over them still to this day.

I did some research and there are quite a few 100+ years old bridges still in use. While I very much like the Central Valley bridge, once I completed it it just looked not substantial enough compared to the prototype bridges at Taggart.

Darryl I have been following your progress on the Morgan, Taggert, Devils Slide scenes. You stated that Riverdale Yard runs Westbound to Morgan and points beyond which is not correct, Riverdale Yard runs Eastbound out of Ogden. So your view of these areas is reversed. Was this intentional in your design?

I understand that the Walthers truss bridge is more to your needs however, I still like the Central Valley truss bridge for its detail. You should try to incorporate it somewhere in your layout. The color is awesome. You did a good job with that paint job. Love your videos. Keep em coming. Dave

@EvanstonSub I'm guilty too, but we used to go out on the Emporia Sub to pace trains in the late 80's and early 90's and normally if we were shooting videos or taking pictures whoever was riding shotgun would do the steering. Anyways keep up the good work it's very impressive and an inspiration 👏

a lighter Olive drab matte mixed with some bleached bone/off white will probably get you close. have you tried the trick of tacking wet salt to the kit for rust? you base coat with a cast iron colour then cover with rust, seal that , tack on salt where you want to have the rust show spray your green ish colour over top and scrape/brush off the salt and your rust comes through and will leave a paint chip edge.

@@EvanstonSub Sean it done in a lot of military model magazines and even tried something similar years back making a sci fi figure for a paint competition. used a water based hair spray 20 years ago but there are probably a 100 better methods now especially with KZbin etc. to help find them.
