The approach to the bridge is generally 10 10' ties then the bridge. The bridge and approach ties are spaced 19.5" on center. The transition prevents high impact from the load on the bridge. In addition the guard rails should extend 50' from the end of the bridge.

The river scene with the trees is excellent , on mine I used Realistic Water from Woodland Scenics . Very happy with the result , just make sure everything is level with any products you will use .... if not the product will prove it !!😂😂😂

Looks good Daryl the west side of Taggert is taking shape now to detail this area and move on to the final two areas of the layout before you go back to the upper deck Devils Slide/Croydon and Echo itself and the bottom level and the peninsula will be done then all thats left is Granger, Westvaco, and the Solvay area and the layout will be complete.

I recommend. 040 styrene for the road surface
@EvanstonSub3 ай бұрын
Styrene works well, just overly smooth for concrete.

@EvanstonSub rough it up a bit with 120 grit sandpaper. After you scribe the joint lines and paint it, you can attach it to the Masonite with contact cement. You should be able to find a plastic dealer that will sell you a 4x8 sheet. It's a lot cheaper that way.

Those green Bridges you should try setting them outside in the actual sun light with black areas around them will help fade the color out or you can just use Alcohol and get them to fade like the Real-Life bridge. Looking Great so far.

Would the interstate look less like a big blob if it was a divided highway? Living in Texas I am just used to seeing a grass median and separate bridges for each direction of the interstate.
@EvanstonSub3 ай бұрын
That's true. However, in this particular location, there is not a grass medium, just a cement K-rail barrier. Not a lot of room in the canyon.

Nice work! I love bridges, so I was very drawn to this video. Nice choice of green for the truss bridges. Did you happen to see my video on detailing one of my bridges? Either way, nice presentation.

What is the name of the green you used for the rivers?

Relentless Olive from Lowes. I used a lot of black to darken it.

I just noticed but I believe the I-84 bridge crossed the opposite way from what you did, unless I am completely wrong
@EvanstonSub3 ай бұрын
Yes, in order for the scene to fit this corner of the basement and to fir with the rest of the layout, things are kinda flipped around.

The concrete probably doesnt attach to the bridge because they probably allow for the supports to expand and contract as well as shift slightly when settling Theis way the bridge can flex in varying temperatures without cracking its foundation. What do you think will happen to Train watching on lines with that kid accused of derailing that train the other day as well as the video of another teen young adult flipping a yard switch. I wonder what come from this?
@EvanstonSub3 ай бұрын
Hmm didn't see that. Could be a problem.

Looks a bit wide for HO scale. whats the width of highway, shoulders and such?
@EvanstonSub3 ай бұрын
I measured it on Google Earth Pro. There's two lanes in each direction, plus two shoulders for each direction. There is a K-line concrete barrier separating the two directions of travel. Altogether, it comes out to 12 inches. I made the hardboard 13 inches to allow for dirt/gravel on the outside of the roadway.

@@EvanstonSub 10-4, looks way to wide tho? Compress it some?
