Hi Susan, I'm an Obesity Medicine specialist and I finally got access to these videos a few days ago. You are absolutely right, as I watched the conference videos I was struck at the caliber of the speakers, including you! Well worth watching for anyone who struggles with UPF (Ultraprocessed Food) addiction. Dr Lustig is always wonderful, as is Michael Moss. I'm so glad we are reaching a consensus about this. The day we can STOP food marketers from advertising to children will be a huge day in my book! I can't tell you how angry I get when I get to diagnose Type 2 diabetes in a 20 year old because she's been eating nothing but UPF (and sugary beverages, often laced with caffeine thanks to Starbucks) all her life. And when I see parents post videos of "baby's first bite of ice cream" -- UGH they have no idea what they are doing to that child's brain!! I do have one suggestion, and that is to adjust your lexicon when you speak about obesity... Obesity is a disease, so we advocate for language that supports this. A person struggling with Obesity is not "obese" or "fat" - they are a person who has the disease of Obesity. They may or may not have UPF Addiction, or Binge Eating Disorder, but they do have a disease that requires treatment regardless of severity. Thanks for all the work you are doing to advocate on behalf of all those struggling - you have my deepest admiration. Dr. Angela Zechmann, Olympia WA

When I started BLE in January I did a 4th meal because my BS was all out of whack and I had hypoglycemia with fainting. Once my BS regulated, I kept the 4th meal because it worked for me. I've had super bright lines and steady weight loss. When I joined Boot camp in June it made sense to me why the 4th meal worked so well for me. I have been a serious binge eater since childhood. I am extremely grateful for BLE. It is working for me and has changed my life❤

Hi I’ve been following you for years and appreciate all information on the terrible effects of flour and sugar. I was addicted to both as a stress response and it took me years to become free and then I bumped into you online. You fill in all the cognitive bits and keep things real. Amazing lady.

What a tremendous vlog! So happy that you had such a wonderful, rewarding experience and thank you for letting everyone in on the excellent and exciting work being done for people who struggle with UPF addiction. The world is so lucky to have you and all the people involved in the movement to get it recognized, taken seriously and treated in whatever way is most effective. I echo the sentiments of Dr.Zechman, I have such admiration for you.

I work in the disability rights field, and I'm curious how this will impact disability since a record of having a substance use disorder is protected under the ADA. Will those of us with UPF addiction be able to claim a disability (can we even do that now)? Will those of us who have been able to overcome our addiction (thank you BLE!!) be able to get a diagnosis if this makes its way into the DSM? Can we ask for disability-related accommodations right now for compulsive eating or UPF addiction?

I keep going back to 4 meals a day (had gastric bypass) and I think I need to just bite the bullet and do it. Thanks for mentioning that option.

I agree with the abstinence of nut butters and peanut butter. I can attest to this addiction.

Yes. I agree with this as well. I had to figure out the hard way that nuts and nut butters were a gateway for me.

At about 19:30, there’s no cure for addiction; there’s only the arresting of that addiction via abstinence/sobriety.

I had to give them up by the first week of BLE Boot Camp 8 years ago. Sigh.
