@jonathanhibberd9983Ай бұрын
We're completely off the rails. Though there is a good theory about where they're going with Pike's blood. I won't say what it is, only that it has to do with something we see in Downfall (Critical Role, Campaign 3, episodes 99-101). For those who haven't seen it, those are completely standalone episodes that show events from the Calamity. It's worth a watch just for how great it is, but it also could give more context to what they're doing with Pike.
@FrostyTheSnowPickleАй бұрын
@@jonathanhibberd9983 I’m kind of hoping they’ll make Ripley the big bad of season 4, since *SPOILERS* Tary becomes really good friends with Percy and she’d be a good foil for Tary. She and Percy are both incredibly dark and tormented people. They’re brilliant, but have used their brilliance to cause harm and destruction because of the pain they’ve suffered. Tary and Percy are both incredibly brilliant and privileged inventors, coming from wealth and having had so many opportunities that Ripley was denied, since she came from a little poor mining village. Tary, unlike the other two, though, is incredibly naive and pretty upbeat. So you’ve got: - Tary, who’s privileged, brilliant, naive, and good-hearted. - Percy, who’s privileged, brilliant, jaded and cynical, and somewhat good-hearted. - Ripley, who’s underprivileged, brilliant, jaded and cynical, and villainous. I feel like that could be a very fun character dynamic to explore.
@jonathanhibberd9983Ай бұрын
@@FrostyTheSnowPickle That would make a lot of sense. The next arc of the campaign is lacking a BBEG, so I can see them pushing Ripley out to next season. The worst part isn’t even Percy’s death. It’s the fact that Orthax gets the souls of everyone killed by one of Ripley’s weapons. That’s why the gun in front of Percy starts glowing at the end. This episodes blew everyone's mind, me included Regarding your question about Pike's blood, here's a theory as spoiler-free as humanly possible: In Exandria demigods (both as lesser idols and as half-mortal half-divine people) exist. Since the Everlight is a deity notably weakened after the Calamity (hence the cracks in her divine form) perhaps Pike is a distant descendant of her, and the goddess is essentially having some of her own power back by having a person with her divine spark following her path
@caffeinedelusionsАй бұрын
I know the natural thing is to expect that Pike will be the one to raise Percy at some point, but I always felt that it was very interesting of the group to have Keyleth do it by casting Reincarnation, a spell that returns a dead character to life in a new body of a random species, sex, and appearance. I hadn’t expected it to be in the body of Zahra’s cousin Lilith, though. Still, it was good to have proof that Vex is bi representation.

"He must have rolled high for that." So, in D&D, you typically don't roll to resist damage from an attack (with specific exceptions). Instead, you have an "armor class" (named because armor can increase it) that determines how hard it is to hit you. The attacker has to roll to beat your armor class, you don't roll to avoid the hit. I didn't watch the campaign, but I would assume if that "Ripley shot him, but he had a metal plate in his coat" happened in the game, it would have been more like the metal plate increased his armor class while he had it, so Anna missed the shot ("missing" an attack in D&D can be actually missing, or just hitting armor and dealing no damage as a result, depending on the context of the story). I want to point out that healing injuries and resurrecting the dead are two very different levels of magic. Pike does not have that power yet. And even if she did, remember when Vex died? Kash is far more experienced, and even he struggled to revive her -- he couldn't, in fact. The only reason she survived is because Vax bound himself to the Matron of Ravens. But you can't bind yourself to a god who you're already bound to, so... I don't think that's an option this time around. But who knows? This part of the show is quite different from the campaign: this stuff happened differently in the game, and Pike's entire arc here wasn't in the game at all. So not even people who watched the campaign know what's going to happen now. With all that said... WTF, Anna? "Your love for your friends is keeping you from working with me, so if I just kill them all, you won't have anything to stop you from our partnership, right?" That's the "logic" of a total psychopath. Jfc.

If you like animation that does fun things with lighting and camera work, season 3 episode 9 of The Bad Batch did really well in that department. That episode isn't strongly connected to the rest of the season plot-wise so it should be easy enough to follow along, or just admire the animation. I’ve often called Ripley the Boba Fett of Critical Role because she does practically very little in the actual show but got alot of love regardless. Very happy that they’ve given her story some better direction

You're thinking too much like this show was written like other shows. Percy died here in the stream.

Fake? Spoiler: Don't trust animal companions. They are very powerful creatures in disguise, hinding to watch the mortals for entertainment! Also love how they done his death. It is a great adaptation of his death in the dnd campaign. Anna, either you love to hate her or you hate to love her!

All this so the Assembly could have some shinny marbles! It's amazing how the campaign ends with these mages vs the world over a marble game. Of course Scanlan will win in the end.

Remember: While the Critical Role cast made a great story with great characters, it's also still a D&D game! Which means none of the main cast is ever truly safe just because they're in the main cast! Just saying!

The thing about the opening scene is that it highlights the dark mirror relationship between Percy and Ripley. Both suffered great losses that shaped the choices they would make, but in the end it’s more about how the people they found on journey shaped where they ended up. Of the two Anna started off with the nobler ambition, her loss led her to want to develop a form of power that could be shared with the powerless, while Percy wanted to create a power for himself alone to exact his personal vendetta. Percy ended up with Vox Machina who eventually saved him from himself, and helped him to become a better man, Ripley ended up with the Briarwoods.

In the original campaign Percy did die but they were able to bring him back to life near instantly after. In order to make the show have more of an impact for tv they’ve changed the rules of resurrection quite a bit.

In that moment of vulnerability, I felt rage at Percy at being so stupid. Ripley is the kind of scum who will not acknowledge what they did wrong, and thus cannot change. Therefore, with the crimes she has committed and the threat she poses, finishing her off would be the correct move.

Stupid, or just empathetic? I don't believe those are the same things, even if they both risk danger to yourself.

@@mutawi They're not, but they're also not mutually inclusive. Anyone who thinks empathy is inherently stupid simply because others can take advantage of it is not worth any value, in my opinion. Empathy is always worth the risk to yourself, because denying empathy is always a bigger risk to everyone else around you.

Don't say cant in this, this does not have to follow the normal story telling tropes, its a story based on a game. People do die and they don't always come back. There's a reason why they have spare characters already made just in case.

2:21 - *“I'm guessing they're about to get attacked.”* Yeah, when she was young, Anna saw the mages from the Cerberus Assembly murder everyone and loot her home, and she thought they were _so cool and awesome_ that she decided to become _exactly like them_ when she grew up. And you gotta hand it to her, she really followed through! Murdering, stealing, helping invade a peaceful town for the unique mineral being mined there, torturing innocent teenagers for information that they don't even have… She was living her dream. It just goes to show what a little bit of inspiration can do for a growing girl! 3:57 - _"I see nothing wrong with that plan."_ - *“Grog, I do! I see a lot of things wrong with that plan.”* Now, now. He has an intelligence of 6; I think he knows what he's talking about. 4:41 - *“I love her voice actress so much!”* Of course you do. Everyone does. Heck, Travis loved her so much, he _married_ her. 13:53 - *“We've not had enough Pike in this show, so far. Like, Pike is my absolute favourite character, and I feel like, out of all the characters, she's the one that we know the least about and we've seen the least of.”* Could possibly have something to do with the fact that she's the character whose player was absent the most, due to work obligations at the opposite side of the continent. And this isn't the usual 9-to-5 kind of work, where she'd have evenings free, but shooting a TV show. If they started their days at 6 on Monday morning, by Thursday (_Critical Role_ game night) the schedule would likely have slipped enough that they'd be shooting from early afternoon until midnight, most weeks - so even skyping in wasn't feasible very often. They have _already_ massively expanded her presence for the show. 17:16 - *“HAAAAA! Don't give me the music!”* Yess… give her _all_ the music. Muahahahahaa! 18:44 - *“Ohh, this is just as bad as the time that Vex got hit!”* A great comparison. Both of these are part of their ongoing effort to make death a much more serious thing in the show than it is in a _D&D_ campaign. Even with _Critical Role's_ house rules that make death a greater danger and more difficult to reverse, during their campaigns, compared to vanilla _D&D,_ they still had to contend with death quite a few times. For the show they've changed instances of it into serious injuries or other setbacks (e.g. Grog's muscle atrophy in season 2), and those deaths that _do_ actually occur in the show are much more serious and meaningful. I trust that, by the time this episode is posted on KZbin, you have already seen the next one, so it won't be a spoiler when I say that in the campaign they took Percy's body to Whitestone to be _revived_ quickly - and that's _not_ what happens in the show! Right now, we're _all_ in the dark, how this is going to play out.
