For me I feel a kinda bittersweet nostalgia. The video is nostalgic of happy days from the 80s which is nostalgic of the60s and the lyrics reference buddy holy from the 60s. Even weezer's sound is sort of a relic from 2000's which has its own nostalgia.

As a 12 year old in 1995, it took me about a year and a half to realize that weezer was in fact NOT a band from the 50s that happened to be in a sitcom from the 70's and for some reason ended up on the win95 installation disk.
@ryanjohnson26202 жыл бұрын
I think the reason it was bundled on win95 disc as an "extra" was to demonstrate an example of high quality video playback. I definitely remember playing this repeatedly and it just being neat to see a music video on my computer. Around those times seeing any video on a computer was usually from a CD ROM and low quality, and we certainly didn't stream or download videos from the web very much.

Yes, same! My parents bought a 1GB computer with that disc, it was the first time I heard Weezer. This video confused me, as it was a total anachronism - really well done - loved it then and still do now. They became my favourite band from then on. I never get tired of their original sound, even now I'm 48.
@Lukeydookee5 ай бұрын
@@BartkovSmirnovsky haha, no, I'm pretty sure 1GB was the whole thing, it was a big deal at the time to be entering the 1GB threshold. It was the main selling point of the computer. I think that's why they named it the Colossus 1GB. Seems funny now.

Even some of us older Millennials can remember this! My parents also bought a Win 95 computer with the disc, it was a Packard Bell pentium 166mhz, 16MB of RAM 1MB of video memory and a 28.8 modem that was updated to the screaming fast 56K modem (still remember my dad saying this when he bought the modem)! I just randomly discovered the video while bored browsing through the disc one time, it was a real holy crap a full music video is actually playing on my computer right now moment! It wasn't the first time I heard the song, my parents listened to all rock radio as I was growing up and song was getting airplay here, the only Weezer song to get airplay here until Hash Pipe years later.

Reminded me of my 9th grade US History teacher. One time when she was a kid, she got to be in the audience of the famous Howdy Doody show. There were no reruns, or home videos of this program when she told us this in 1996. Yet she swore that the scene in Back to the Future III, she was one of the kids in the beginning singing the theme song It’s Howdy Doody Time! If true, how cool would that be? Never knowing that one day you’d grow up and teach a bunch of kids who saw (heard) you sing in a very famous movie, and that one day, their kids will as well. BTW, that was also the same year I heard of this song. A bunch of kids wouldn’t stop singing it when I did Mary Tyler Moore for my project.

@2v_5r I heard this song and say it ain’t so in my middle school jazz band class. I never heard anything like it before and decided to look it up on KZbin. This was around 2014 or 15. From there I found Foo fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers, Nirvana, Alice In Chains. I listened to it and from there I found Black Sabbath, then Motörhead and Iron Maiden. Then out of nowhere I stumbled upon Cannibal Corpse on Spotify, which lead to Death, Carcass, Napalm Death, Bolt Thrower, Slayer, Pantera, Cattle Decap, Dying Fetus, Deicide, Bloodbath and dozens of other bands. That’s how Weezer got me into Death Metal.

Another fun fact: Raymond Chen, one of the original Windows 95 developers, explained why the Windows 95 CD-ROM had a "Funstuff" folder. From his blog: "Why did the Windows 95 CD have extra fun stuff, like the Good Times and Buddy Holly music videos, the Rob Roy trailer, and the cartoons by Bill Plympton? Because it was fun! Why does one have to justify having fun? In addition to the multimedia fun, there was also video game fun, with the addition of Pinball and the mercifully-forgotten hovercraft game Hover! (Some of us thought it was so awful, we secretly called it Hoover!)"
