Why I love Pinkerton is that unlike the Blue Album, which sounded more like a compilation of tracks made over a couple of years, Pinkerton sounds like it was all composed in one crazy fever dream that Rivers had in a short period of time. The album is so cohesive and consistently weird and wonderful. It could have only been crafted in some crazy inspired burst of magical creative energy. Ideas taken from another dimension. We probably won't ever get an album like Pinkerton again.
@Issicra2 жыл бұрын
Nope, because any time Weezer has tried to deviate from the Blue Album sound, they catch a bunch of shit. They're kinda like AC/DC in that respect. That's not to say Weezer hasn't put out some real misses in trying to do something different... I think they have... but maybe if Pinkerton had gotten the promotion and love it deserved when it came out, the band could have evolved organically as opposed to constantly having to step back and make the Blue Album again to appease people.

@@ohyeahitsthatoneguy White and Ok Human, while they're the best albums they've put out since Green, sound childish and focus tested compared to Blue and Pinkerton. They never regained the passion and sincerity they lost after Pinkerton was panned. Rivers is a very talented songwriter but not a profound or tasteful one like he was at his peak.
@ohyeahitsthatoneguy2 жыл бұрын
@@patriciofernandez2711 it wasn't too profound what he was writing about and it still isn't but you can tell he's lived a little and has grown up since the Blue Album and Pinkerton days. He's arguably at his peak right now, Weezer hasn't died out and is more popular than ever thanks to generations of fans and new young fans getting into their stuff that keeps them soaring above most other bands coming from the 90s. Not many popular bands from back then are just as popular if not more popular today but Weezer stands out from the crowd by being unapologetically Weezer and by Rivers being himself. "They never regained the passion or sincerity after Pinkerton was banned" give me a break, I and many Weezer fans felt the passion and sincerity with EWBAITE, come on Foolish Father and then Futurescope Trilogy to finish off the album alone made the album one of the best in their discography. And come on saying the White Album and Ok Human is childish compared to Blue and Pinkerton sounds ridiculous. Especially Pinkerton...I rest my case
@patriciofernandez27112 жыл бұрын
@@ohyeahitsthatoneguy I don't know bro, EWBAITE has a couple of great tunes like Da Vinci and the Futurescope trilogy but I don't find any of them to be essential Weezer. They have been playing it safe since their first "comeback" in 2001. Back to the Shack is the worst kind of padding to their core audience and the lyrics are regressive as hell. Yeah the lyrics on Pinkerton are not Bob Dylan material but they're painfully earnest; having your chorus go "I'm dumb, she's a lesbian/I thought I had found the one" and sing it with total sincerity and passion takes guts. I love OK Human more than anything they've put out in the last 20 years (I do like some Green though) but, while it's a very rich and lush album, no amount of Aloo Gobi's will reach the heights of the instrumental section of Falling for You. All my Favorite Songs is a very weak album opener as well. Rivers retreated into his shell after the Pinkerton disaster and never really came back. There has been some enjoyable stuff since then, but sadly he seems keen on writing for an immature audience.

The song describes a man who falls in love with a woman with whom he imagines he could settle down and be married. However, he soon discovers that the object of his affection is a lesbian who possibly thinks that the man himself is gay.[3] The song is based on a real person that Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo encountered while a student at Harvard, whom he fantasized a life with until he saw a pink triangle-a gay pride symbol-on her backpack. According to Cuomo, a year and a half after the album was released he discovered that the woman was actually not a lesbian and had just been showing support for the gay community. Source : Wiki

Yea. I always liked it when it came out even though it was a lot different from Buddy Holly, etc. At the time, I didn't realize the critics hated it, but I this was one of my favorite albums.

They need to release that pink triangle live performance where Rivers has a bowlcut and Matt is playing the white bass

Dude I know, I've been searching for footage for a straight year. It was the Shoreline Amphitheatre show in 1997, and there's plenty of photos online, just no footage. I'd really love to see it, especially with how focused all the band members look.

Especially at 4:01. Pat and Matt both look so into it. I bet it sounds absolutely perfect.

It’s because they’ve been accused of being a industry plant and then people didn’t like Pinkerton because it was “too whiney” and it got hated on til green came out and then people liked Pinkerton and hated green. And also it’s just easy to shit on because of their tainted reputation although the reputation was never good because critics have a stick up their ass.
