No one has mentioned this so far, but the "time capsule" house they're performing in is amazing: it really looks as if it were built in the early 1970s then furnished in the late 1970s/early 1980s which would fit a 1985 setting.

Yes everyone assumes the 80s was neon when it was actually very brown.
@julianhermanubis68002 жыл бұрын
@@wezix That "neon" look was mostly in some nightclubs and some high-end stores. Most normal homes were a lot more sedate with their furnishings, especially in the early 1980s, which just kind of looked like a continuation of late 1970s blandness.
@jamesrogers15542 жыл бұрын
100% true. The neon, glass, brass, white look was very 80's modish but nearly everyone who wasn't rich was still living with furniture and colors from the 1970s. My parents had a brown, tan, and orange couch and their kitchen was still painted that popular 70s gold color until about 1993. The stuff that did look "80s" tended to be the things like clothing, linens, and other things that you replaced every few years. I totally had a denim jacket, high-tops, and a walkman but still went home and watched a 18in TV from about 1978.

My dad cba to redecorate when he moved into his place in 1999 and it was still that brown and beige aesthetic. He hasn't redecorated since in the living room, except to buy about a thousand owl figurines. Could be his house, if it were smaller
@julianhermanubis68002 жыл бұрын
@@jamesrogers1554 It would be like a time traveler going back to 1929 and expecting normal homes to be all in that fancy chrome art deco look. Well, yeah, maybe in high-end apartments in NYC or Chicago or Hollywood but not in 99% of most people's houses. The 1980s didn't look like a neon-and-black Hollywood set in most normal houses and buildings.

It's not exactly astrophysics or neurosurgery. This has been done before, with nostalgia for the '50s happening in the late '70s to mid '80s, and a lot of fashion and music cycling back through the references of every decade or so since the 1950s. Plus, Weezer dabbled in that, too: they had clips from a '70s show that referenced the 1950s: "Buddy Holly", with a Happy Days clip. Sorry- my mind is neither ironically nor sarcastically blown!

@@thechocolatemilkcurse884 we did have computers in the 80s.. amstrads and commodores and.... life was indeed real and simpler back then : mass unemployment, the AIDS epidemics, to name just a few... people always remember the good sides of their past, and always forget the bad, giving a really biased vision of a "good old time" but no, it wasn't "much better", just different.
@thechocolatemilkcurse8845 жыл бұрын
Julien S this is very true, the technology we have today we didn’t even have 5 or 6 years ago. So medical wise yes today is much better, but on the other hand doctors are feeding their patients with chemicals and radiation to help treat illnesses which is 100 percent stupid in my opinion. There is a handful of other things people could be doing to help treat them selves that are 100 percent natural remedies. I guess what I’m saying is that back in the day yes it woulda been a little harder but not that much harder. It was still way simpler then today. You go outside and there is nobody playing at the park anymore, there’s no kids who are really wanting to go outside and have fun unless it’s the kids who were raised on having fun outside. All these kids do is sit in front of a screen all day and night playing fortnite or cod. There was no consoles other then playing Pac-Man or street fighter at arcades which in my mind is far more exciting and entertaining then shooting people up on the screen at home. Then again there was so much racism back then, not that there’s no racism now, it’s just frowned upon and hidden in the shadows more. In the 70’s and 80’s if you were any other race other then white you were tread like scum and killed. So there is ups and downs, and there is ups and downs today too......I don’t know, I guess you are right, but I still would much rather live back in the 80’s for sure.

No matter who sings it, in which time, you simply do not have to arrange that much the melody since the song is perfect the way it is.

My understanding from an article I read a while ago is that after A-ha released the first version in UK, 1984 (which failed) they spent a ridiculous amount of time remixing, rerecording and rearranging the song, by which I mean they worked hard, believing they had a hit song if they could just get it right. They did and their late 1985 release, along with the video, topped the US charts.
