such a thick, dusty, throaty, growly bass tone. I'm still chasing it. The closest I've gotten is a jazz bass (apparently matt used a stingray bass for this but I don't own one) through a green russian big muff (11 o'clock volume, 9/10 o'clock sustain and tone) into an orange bass amp (10 o'clock gain, 2 o'clock bass, 12/1 o'clock treble and 1/2 o'clock mids with the volume cranked). Hope this helped some people get closer to this tone!

I’ve heard that he uses a EHX Sovtek Big Muff. I have found the bass tone before but I don’t own a jazz bass, so it sounds a little wonky with a fender PBass

Crank the mids on your amp, play a Jazz bass through some kind of fuzz/OD/dist pedal.
