Recorded while they were at their best before they became a duo, such a shame as I loved that bass tone, I suppose it's cheaper touring as a duo playing with backing tracks and drum machines, it's just not the same for the audience. :(
@freyav.55002 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it was purely a financial decision. They talked about it in interviews. Apparently the tohoku earthquake, tsunami and Fukushima meltdown in 2011 really put them down and they were about to end the band for good when performing as a duo for ATP gave them back the energy to continue and reinvent themselves. I miss the old band but I can respect that. Having seen them live recently I ca attest they’ve truly developed a unique new style that probably would never work with a band.
@gavinbuck81302 жыл бұрын
@@freyav.5500 Hi there, thanks for that info, I had no idea, it's very possible to have a fantastic aural experience at a gig where half of the band are playing to a backing track. I think it suffers a little visually when you're lacking the onstage energy a live drummer and bass player brings personally. :) But then again we should be grateful in such circumstances that the bands continue, Cardiacs were always fantastic as a 4 four piece despite playing with a backing track of Bill Drakes' keys and Sarahs' sax.. :)
@freyav.55002 жыл бұрын
@@gavinbuck8130 To Melt Banana‘s credit, Yako controls the backing track with a midi controller and they always change up the songs a lot, so it never feels like they are just pushing start on an ableton file but I miss the full band too I must admit. When I first saw them live I was so blown away playing this kind of organized chaos so fast and flawless was possible that I couldn’t listen to any other music for a week after the gig. They still have the same insane energy though these days, it’s just different.
@thetreebles19902 жыл бұрын
I'm sad that Rika isn't in the band anymore, but Fetch was recorded as a duo, and it's pretty damn good. Back around 2009 when they were playing live as Melt-Banana Lite, they were playing with synths and drum machines. It wasn't just financial, it was to save space and generally for convenience sake. This is a very niche form of music, so the money isn't always a safe bet, especially if you don't have a cult following of sorts. Of course they do, but I'm saying that for anyone that wishes to start something so esoteric.
