From Freital-Hainsberg the Weißeritz valley railway (750 mm gauge) goes to Kurort Kipsdorf. In 2022 there were 2 and a half regular pairs of trains per day. The last train of the day runs only to Dippoldiswalde and back again. The narrow gauge station is located below the normal gauge line from Dresden to Chemnitz and Zwickau. Having left the station, the narrow gauge railway passes under this line. A gradient leads up to the normal gauge line. Then the railways lead along the United Weißeritz river. It is born where Wild and Red Weißeritz unite.
Aftzer Freital-Coßmannsdorf station the railway passes through Rabenauer Grund. There it crosses Red Weißeritz river and the walking track several times. Some kilometers ahead Malter station is reached, lying close to the banks of Malter water reservoir.
When the trains head up to Kipsdorf, the locomotives take water at Dippoldiswalde. Here is aremarkable platform roof. In 1997, there was only the wooden skeleton as the roof had been damaged by a fire shortly before.
In Schmiedeberg the railway passes through the town on a viaduct to the station, close to the houses. Why was the line built like this? A table in the center of the small town gives the answer. First, the railway passed through Schmiedeberg at street level. This was a permanent cause of accidents. As the Schmiedeberg iron works grew and grew, and traffic with them, the railway line and station had to be shifted to a different position.
At Dippoldiswalde a gray building with a short attached roof can be seen. It has got a scale at the upper floor. So we can assume that the water tank for the locomotives has been there - at least in former times.
At Freital-Potschappel, between Freital-Hainsberg and Dresden, old buildings and narrow gauge vehicles could be seen in 1997. They are still there in 2022, but their state has become worse.
