Okay, so about the "powers" they are using. I will try to somehow summarize it, but it is such a complex and large topic that this will be like only the tip of the iceberg. The genre of The Untamed is called XianXia, which is usually translated as "immortal heroes." It's a "fantasy" genre that contains elements of classical Chinese mythology and philosophy (such as Buddhism, Taoism, traditional material arts, and many others). The main concept is that people are able by meditation and training "cultivates" themselves with the goal to became immortal in the end of their journey. They also gain many special abilities through their cultivation. You asked if everyone there has these "powers," and the answer is no; only the ones that train from their early childhood can have them, and there are other conditions.

This is probably a cultural thing because as a Chinese viewer, I've never thought about it this way. Xianxia 仙侠(the genre of this show) has always been "magic power" + traditional esthetic, and it's always Daoism -based. Cultivators get their powers from the world around them, and also from their hearts, body, and soul. I've seen Westerners say that "blood magic must be dark magic", but since "body" is a conduct of cultivated power, blood is a medium of power too. (Although that's only when the cultivator is using their own blood, so not killing other people.) Apart from Xianxia, there's also Wuxia 武侠, the difference is that "Xian" can be directly translated as "immortal", while "Wu" is translated as "martial art". If you are interested, there are many great Wuxia novels you can read, I recommend Jin Yong's novels.

I love your reactions to the untamed I hope to see more and yes most cdramas have a noticeably low budget😭 (that, or they spend it all on costumes. The outfits are gorgeous lmao) but despite the bad cgi and special effects it’s such a great show and the story, acting and chemistry makes up for its faults

there are big budget dramas in china but Untamed is a low budget drama with less popular cast [yibo(boy in white dress) became popular while shooting this drama tho] , & when they shooting this, they didn't even know will this drama release or not bcuz china popular bl dramas all got canceled while broadcasting around that time. However untamed became domestic & international hit. Undoubtedly one of the biggest hit of china dramas, making two lead actors top traffic actors in china, special thing about this is, popular dramas comes & goes, but for almost 5yrs this drama still one of most loved drama among chinese & international fans. But fame comes with price & both actors have to pay for it, fame cause many troubles for them, but both of them still at the top of the c-entertainment industry. Xz(boy with red ribbon) more in romantic/gentle side projects while yibo(boy with white ribbon) went more with action side.

The powers are actually extremely integral to the plotline. The show would be like 2 minutes long if not for the magic, basically every major event and character moment is related in some way to the magic system.

not sure if anyone said it yet but in some of the scenes you can see that the ribbon lan zhan wears on his forehead is used to tie his and wei wuxian's wrists together. in the series the meaning of the ribbon is that only your soulmate/significant other can touch or remove it. wei wuxian doesn't know this until further along in the series but he messes with it all the time and doesn't get why it's such a big deal to lan zhan. i don't remember if he finds out the meaning in the show but he does in the books and it's just really cute

there's also a lot more in the books that's not shown in the show due to censorship but they manage to sneak in a lot of things like the line "i'll sleep on your roof tonight" by wei wuxian to lan zhan which is a confession of feelings. and there's also a part where they're in marriage clothes. it's just cool to see the creativity with trying to really show that they love each other without violating any rules

As to the Dark powers: the novel (as one of favorite Untamed Crack videos points out) is titled The Master of Demonic Cultivation , very much indicating Wei Wuxian. Think of stories where a Hero is tempted by a dark power which he feels, incorrectly, he can control. Lan Wangi is that friend who sees the damage and tries to help him overcome the addiction, but Wei Wangi is surrounded by person wanting to steal this power- without doing the work or having to suffer as he did- through an unprecedented sacrifice- as Wei does. But the story is more than that: you also reviewed the Wen Siblings. Their story is a timely one, as you have decent group of people targeted by society because if s familial connection to a group of terrorist. The nobility, courage and honor of the Wen Siblings shines in series a little more than it does in the novel- but the spirit is true to the novel. Watch it and review some of these later. .

Only the cultivators have power, and they all have different abilities. Some stonger than others, theres also normal people. But there are different clans. I can't tell you enough, just watch it. Netflix is taking it away October 24. Ive watched it Repeatedly. I bought the dvd, and soundtrack. The real music from the actual Untamed will haunt you. Its way more beautiful than these already great songs. Also bought the novels! Im hooked obviously. You'll understand these later... 🦁🐰💚❤️

Dark powers context: read if ok with a few spoilers(not too major): Chinese fantasy relies a lot on energy. Cultivators are ppl who grow/cultivate energy within themselves to basically use magic. Most of the characters are cultivators, usually belonging to one of the major cultivation clans(sects are another name). Not all energy is viewed as “good” by cultivation society. Esp energy that involves raising zombies, controlling ghosts, curses, etc. At some point Wei Ying starts using that energy(resentful energy at least) and is later hunted down by cultivation society for doing so(which is when he dies).

I think you got the wrong conception because fan edit videos are mostly about love story. But this show is mostly about powers, not about love:) but there are 50 episodes of course love is here too:) there are many fights and powers and the plot is mostly around magical side.
