When I started driving, I was with my trainer. We had a load of beer and was less than 100 lbs from 80,000 lbs. The brewery had scales onsite. You had to be legal before you could leave their property. Luckily my trainer had been driving a long time and knew where to set the tandems.

Beer USED to be a "" outlaw "" load. They didn't care about your problems. BUT, that's changed a lot in the past 30 years. NOW? They try to load you as close as possible to the 80,000 lb mark. But, will try to get the axle weight right and not let you leave unless it's legit

Also remember, when figuring out how close to get on the drivers, that if you aren't full of fuel and add fuel, that weight will almost all go on your divers. 200 gallons would be over 1400 pounds. I know they said not to fuel before you picked up, but you want to make sure that you have enough fuel to make your delivery point. Sometimes it is necessary to stop and fuel up, but the secret is to not take on more that you need. Figure out how much you used, and don't get any more that that. Keep up the good work and keep safe and legal. 😇

Congratulations!!! If you look in our older videos there are a few on that. Shopping. Cooking. Etc. Our newest thing that I LOVE is a small air fryer!!! Great for cooking and warming up (we don’t use a microwave). Can even bake in there. Lots of raw vegetables to nibble in throughout the day. And some nuts but watch the calories! Oats and seeds, nuts, fruit, etc for breakfast. Boiled eggs on hand that we make in the hot water kettle. Make sure any appliances work with your inverter. Run engine while cooking. We also have an electric kettle. If we had more room I’d bring a rice cooker too. Fridge with freezer is awesome. At Werner we did not have a fridge in the truck, so we bought a 12 V cooler to keep some things. The fridge/freezer has improved things tremendously. The most important thing is not to buy the fast food that you will see everywhere along the way. Best of luck with everything. We wish you a fabulous new career! Thanks for watching our channel! Let us know if we can help you with anything else. Who are you starting your driving career with?

@@TheJoyofTrucking That's one of the reasons I wouldn't drive for a major carrier again. I drive for a smaller company. I drive newer trucks. No driver facing cameras. No lane departure crap. Trucks governed at 75 mph. I can fuel where I want. They tell me where to pick up the load and where to deliver it. How I get there is up to me. I can use manual mode on the transmission. I often go through passes. I always use manual mode on the transmission when going up and down steep grades. That's especially important when the roads are slippery.

@TheJoyofTrucking8 ай бұрын
Thanks! Glad you like my hat! It’s Bolivian. Bought in North Dakota. 😁 Concerns… yes. Definitely have to be very conscientious about what you eat and how much you eat. Fitting in exercise is very challenging. It’s a lot of sitting. Very important to get up every couple hours and move. In the Freightliner Kevin started feeling it in his back. I wear a back brace for support as I already had back surgery in 2000 and find some of the roads rather unbearable. Even in the Kenworth I 70 through Indiana is very hard on my back. I also wear compression socks and sit on a doughnut. Kevin does not. It is definitely not a healthy career choice. It takes a lot of extra effort to take care of your mind and body. The conditions can be rough and the hours are long. Hope that gives you a bit of insight. 😃
