Yeah, walking into things hurts. Nice explanation of aircraft weighing. I've weighed aircraft from Piper Warriors to B747. You could show how the CG is calculated.

When you fly you don't have any dirt on your Wheels? Woundn't you want to use Real flying weight?

Hey Gary. When performing a weight and balance there is a legal requirement to make sure the aircraft is clean of all rubbish both internally and externally. Removing dirt is part of that. Must have full engine oil, unusable fuel, all mandatory equipment installed and listed as well as any permanent ballast in place. From this empty weight starting point you then add the weight of pilot and fuel and baggage all the while making sure the aircraft stays below its maximum allowable weight AND within its C of G range in all stages of flight.

@@DCSquared If they are that damned picky as to write a legal requirement that I wipe off the tires for a weight and balance in AU then I can understand why they are killing the desire for young people there to get into flying - OCD!
