In the meantime, we are warming up with these short daily practices. Every day, we focus on one essential element of your gait pattern.
Today, while walking, pay attention to the passage of weight-bearing through the bottom of each foot. The architecture of the foot is awesome, with its 26 bones and 33 joints.
Today's practice includes observing your right foot's spontaneous transfer of weight and pressure. Then, do the same with your left foot. Give yourself time to sense it clearly. Get to know it well.
Next, try moving your weight progressively and smoothly from the heel through the outside border of the sole of the foot (standing unit of the foot), shifting into the ball of the big toe, and using the 1st and 2nd toe (propulsive unit) for the push-off.
Experience different alternatives with weight shifting to the inside (collapsing medial longitudinal arch), or staying on the outside border throughout the whole duration of the standing phase of your gait. Through these variations, you are learning what may work best for balance and power of the toe-off.
