There are several reasons why bariatric patients may drop out of the surgery process. Here are some possible factors: 1. Fear and anxiety: Bariatric surgery is a major procedure that involves significant lifestyle changes. Some patients may feel overwhelmed by the prospect of undergoing surgery and may have anxiety about the potential risks and complications. 2. Financial concerns: Bariatric surgery can be expensive, and some patients may not have the financial resources to cover the costs. Even with insurance, there may be out-of-pocket expenses that are difficult to afford. 3. Insurance barriers: Some insurance plans may not cover bariatric surgery, or may require extensive pre-authorization and documentation, which can be a barrier for patients. 4. Lack of social support: Bariatric surgery requires significant lifestyle changes, including changes in eating habits and exercise routines. Patients who do not have a strong support system may struggle to make these changes and may drop out of the surgery process. 5. Medical issues: Some patients may have medical issues or complications that make them ineligible for bariatric surgery. Additionally, some patients may have medical issues that require treatment before they can undergo surgery. 6. Personal reasons: Bariatric surgery is a major decision, and some patients may ultimately decide that it is not the right choice for them. They may have personal reasons for not wanting to undergo the procedure, or they may decide to pursue other weight loss options instead.

Yes! Some patients drop out of the #BariatricSurgery Program because of the high deductible and out-of-pocket expenses. But! The benefits of the program are superior ;living a healthier lifestyle will reduce the overall cost of healthcare at the end of the day.

Dr Irgau comments on the perception towards unhealthy weight and points out patients are usually late to take action "How long does it take for a #patient to come for a #weightloss #bariatric consult? Usually 2 years.." and it doesn't take 2 years for other illnesses such as #diabetes #UMACO #CHRIAS #AmericanSurgeryCenter #BariatricSurgery #Delaware #WeightLoss #Obesity #LoseWeight

Do you find that having to quit smoking cigarettes is a big reason people do not follow through with the bariatric surgery process?
