Such a huge relief. I got accepted as a patient at the Bateman-Horne Center (an me/cfs specialty clinic) late last year, and they were instrumental in helping me get approved for long-term disability, and they've also helped give me several hours out of bed each day. So grateful for them!

Great to find your videos right now. My gastric bypass is in 11 days on October 10th, 2023. I have not always been large, I only gained the weight since about 2010. I also have C.F.S. and some autoimmune disorders as well as plantar fasciitis, bunions, gout... it's just nice to find someone in my wheel house.

I haven’t had weightloss surgery, but I do experience the “dumping syndrome” you describe anytime I eat something sweet.. cake, candy etc. As a result, I totally avoid anything that contains sugar. I always thought that I might be producing too much insulin, but maybe “dumping” is the problem 🤔. Thanks for posting this update!

I've lost 100 pounds by diet alone, I have MS and that means I'm in a wheelchair and a hospital bed, so weight gain is the problem I have the most problems with. After losing 100 pounds, I haven't been able to lose anymore weight.

I'm so sorry to hear about your health struggles, and I totally relate. Not being able to exercise really hampers our ability to break through plateaus. There are some newer medications available that are helping a lot of people drop weight, like Ozempic and Mounjaro that might be worth looking into.

consider incorporating a couple days of Protein Sparing Modified Fast per week. It feeds your muscles and is great for inflammation. You don't want to do it long term., no more than 3 days per week. Maria Emmerich and her husband are great resources for info.

Just found your channel. Both you and I started off at 440lbs. I had the sleeve performed on Nov 8, 2023 and have lost 75lbs as of Jan 27, 2034. No dumping, but pay the price should I eat/swallow too fast. I do encounter runny nose, hiccups or sneezing after eating. Challenge for me is getting my water in. I now make a 50/50 mix of filtered water with PRIME electrolyte. As for eggs, I can only do one egg and it has to be scrambled with Ricotta cheese. As for exercise, all I can do is walking (when my knee does not hurt, which is caused from dehydration.)

I'll respond with less of a "fan-boy" "goody for you" flavor because I've never heard of you, and really just stumbled onto your self theropy session here on youtube. Every person I have met and know who has had gastric bypass GB surgery is in "a better place" than before they got it, they say. So that's a plus, but they did trade some of their previous troubles for new ones. But mostly all the old addictions and habits remain. Most of my friends have gained a lot or all the weight back. It's very sad. The hanging loose skin is bad and it costs a lot to remove. So they always cover up. The tooth decay and bone loss is very common among them. Nutrition is a big worry. I was excited for my friends to lose morbid weight, get more socially accepted, and be normal. They stopped wearing stripes and netting. But it is not the complete answer. Especially when they relapsed. The depression takes over again. I'm not a fan of GB its not super successful. I went to the therapy classes with my friends and found many GB people to be still troubled by the problems that made them obese in the first place. So I think more attention has to go toward addiction control, food training.

sadly I am inclined to agree. 4 of my friends got bariatric surgery and 3 are still obese. When I was 25, a nurse practitioner at the health department told me I "need" gastric bypass (I was there to get an IUD). She had it, the receptionist had it, my insurance would cover it and everything would be great. I had high blood pressure, prediabetes and my weight had continuously crept up since childhood (I was fat then, too). I didn't do it, mostly because I was terrified of surgery. I spent nearly my whole life trying to diet/exercise, count calories, slaving in the gym. Never really made any progress. When I got pregnant with my first son, I had gestational diabetes. I did strict low carb and watched my sugars like a hawk. I could never change enough for myself, but I could when someone else depended on me. After he was born, I was tired of restricting and went back to my old way of eating. It wasn't THAT bad compared to the average US citizen, but it was bad enough that my weight reached over 300 lbs in the following year. I finally cut the cr@p and did strict low carb. I've lost 130 lbs since then. Of course I fell off the wagon a couple times, but I never gave up. i had my share of struggles but I am SO GLAD I never went under the knife, after seeing what my friends have to deal with for the rest of their life... while still being obese! It's not worth it for nearly half of patients, but the true results and statistics are being covered up. I know if I had that surgery at 25, it would have failed. I was still following the useless food pyramid and g@rb@ge "diet" plans that the doctors hand you in the office. it took YEARS to truly face my emotional attachment to food. I would not have been able to overcome my psychological urge to eat at that time, plus the extreme leptin resistance and inability to feel full. Not to mention that eating several small meals a day never allows your body to enter Autophagy, which is the main self-cleaning process that takes care of excess connective tissue, weakened/mutated cells, toxins, etc. My bariatric patient friends are still sl@ves to food and their stomach. I was tired of thinking about food.

Thank you guys for your honest review of your different experiences with the surgery. Have you thought about taking Wegovy to assist in losing the weight again? I have been researching the drug but I am also going to start taking bariatric surgery classes in the meantime. I will have to get gastric bypass because I have GERD.

I just stumbled across this channel today as I’ve begun thinking about the possibility of weight loss surgery. It really scares me, but I’ve only recently started to consider it. I have rheumatoid arthritis and I take lots of supplements daily as my current health insurance doesn’t cover the specialty medication that’s been prescribed to me. I think what scares me most is that I’ve seen my mother’s health decline in many ways since her GB in 2008 and it seems to stem from that procedure. In addition, she’s also gained most of her weight back that she lost. Just seems so defeating. Not sure what to do at this point, but I thank you for your honesty and for sharing your journey.

Hello! Ironically, I found your channel yesterday and really enjoyed your shares. Thank you! Mark, you might try Overeaters Anonymous to help with the emotional eating. It helps me immensely. My gastric sleeve was 5/30 and I have to be very careful to not start the slippery slope of sweets that slide down too easily. My top weight was 320 and I am 282. I need to lose 35 more pounds to be able to get a much needed knee replacement. I want my life back! I want the mobility to walk and dance. Thanks again for your inspiration!

Lovely to see and catch up with your surgery and lives going forward.. I like you Mark suffer from chronic fatigue and fibromyalgia after being electricuted 10 years ago.. My weight ballooned to 22 stone from nearly 15 stone, over those 10 years of acute pain, high dose meds and total fatigue, just not able to move! Also acute depression, loss of my job, friends, socialising etc...all a downward spiral from my body's pain, fatigue and immobility to move... I have taken the plunge 6 months ago to have gastric bypass surgery, and like you have said between you...I am abit of both of your comments from surgery !! Strangely, I had restless leg syndrome, for 10 years, after surgery, its gone !! OMG, amazing, for me.. I have lost 5 stones so far..and feel so much less cumbersome, getting about...BUT, it has not changed my fibromyalgia pain or chronic fatigue syndrome... I'm still in agony and totally drained of energy ... I do having dumping syndrome, eating too quickly, that piggy for food was still in me..I'm curbing it.. I never feel hungry anymore, so remind myself to eat about 6 small meals a day seems to work for me.. My hair has suffered, now so thin, falling out, but I'm hoping in time it also adjusts...after the surgery. Please keep doing your videos, they've helped me, and real life is never easy, and surgery won't fix everything, but we can only help ourselves !!! x

It’s hard to maintain weight loss. You have to eat. I’ve found that if you don’t bring it in the house to begin with , it’s a start. I have some sort of control by doing this. I don’t have the all the answers since I got a way to go but I hope this tip helps somebody. Eating a lot of soup too is helpful. Not the soup with cream based. Don’t do that.

Thats so interesting that you mentioned the same conditions i have( 49yrs female) pots, mast cell activation, gastroperesis (stomach issues where it stops working properly) fybro and cronic fatigue. However over the years as they've got worse the hypermobility and joint issues have increased and now been diagnosed with type 3 hypermobile ehlers Danlos syndrome. So now being gluten and carb free (very low carb and sugar) has helped with migraine and stomach issues. The correlation with stomach and brain and blood sugars are documented. Well done on your surgery and recovery i hope you find the best combination for you both.

I'm so sorry to hear you struggle with so many of the same things I do. Apparently I'm unusual in that I'm not hypermobile, which usually clusters with the me/cfs, MCAS, etc. Hope your issues continue to improve with your gluten + carb free diet.

I get dumping and it's educational. Also confusing in its inconsistency. I'm only 11 months post op so I'm still figuring my body out. I've lost 100 lbs now and am approaching my goal weight, I still think I could go another 20 lbs below that. I also dislike exercise, but I like riding my bike for short errands and for exploring natural places. I mostly walk my dog though, because it's good for both of us. (My chunky old dog really needs the exercise.) Especially right after a meal if I feel like I'm going to start dumping and go for a walk quickly before it really sets in. I'm learning a lot about glucose and my metabolism, while also working on the mental side of my food relationship. It's exciting and a whole new challenge in my mid 50's.

I got all the same recommendations from my surgeon and I was 100% diligent about sticking to all the rules for over a year and I lost 210 lbs. I thought I had overcome all of my emotional eating issues for good, but then my dad died, I had to quit my job because my other health issues were so severe, which meant we had to sell our house, and all that stress led me to start eating my emotions again. But thanks to therapy over the past several months, I've been able to get both my emotions and my eating in check. I'm following the dietary rules again and the weight is coming back off.

So you asked what can you do at your age for exercise. Let me tell you why you should get an eBike. First you will get exercise even though they have a motor. So the idea that eBikes are somehow cheating is not true. eBibes let you go further, which gives you mental stimulation seeing new places, keeps you alert, let you have spurts of energy and rest without stopping, and with no worrying how you're getting home from your workout. You can bring your eBike camping, to national parks and to remote places in your own town you never thought you would explore by hiking. And you will lose weight having fun.

I have 25 lbs to lose before gastric sleeve surgery. Started 333 to go down to 275. I'm 67 years old and the least i weighed was 205 lbs when i was 22 and got married. I walk 3 miles every other day for exercise. I have read many blogs and different surgeon way of doing there programs. It seems that the worlds addiction to sugar is the main down fall through out the world. To go sugar free during my pre, weight reduction process is the same battle all my life. I realize there is a chance that i could have a decrease in crave for sugar after surgery. Is this the time for therapy or counciling or wate to the honeymoon period ends and gain weight begins or both?

I think therapy now would be a good thing. The surgery is a dramatic change, and change can be difficult to deal with (even when it's positive!). As it happens, I have an appointment with my therapist today. I'm on a bit of a plateau and feeling frustrated but my therapist always helps put things in perspective for me.

I'm a 19 year old boy, i am 5'6 and i weigh 300 should i take the sleeve or the bypass?

Your best bet is to talk to your doctor and/or set up a consultation with a local bariatric surgeon to see what they recommend. Speaking for myself, I have no complaints about my bypass, and from what I understand bypasses tend to have better long-term success rates in terms of total weight lost and the ability to keep it off.

My mitochondria are definitely dysfunctional. I take CoQ10 and pyridostigmine and a few other things that are helping with the muscle weakness.

@@SprintingSlowly the main reason I brought this up was I was misdiagnosed with pretty much everything you said before I found out it is commonly misdiagnosed it is a rare illness I had to get a muscle biopsy to confirm that was almost 20 years ago so hopefully things have changed
