Thanks for another thorough.and detailed and enthusiastic commentary on Lasha’s progress in his career. What I missed most in the world championships was the commentary by my favourite trio of Doctor David Balfour, J.P.Nicolette and Sean Waxman. They really added a spark and a zest for the sport of weightlifting which is sadly missing this time round. Thanks again Seb for your thoroughly enlightening commentary on this iconic weightlifter 👍✅

A good comparison to the 500 kg total is the 2 hour marathon. It’s probably possible, the record is within a minute of it and Kipchoge got under two hours in an unofficial special event with some more relaxed rules, nevertheless it’s a huge milestone that represents an approximate limit of human performance, and I can’t really see a world where either starts happening regularly like the 4 minute mile.

The pressure on Lasha reminds me of Julius Maddox. For a few years it was just expected of him that every time he competed he would break the bench record, and we were just waiting to see by how much. The two of them have rather familiar arcs, actually. That expectation that we're SUPPOSED to see new records every time they compete. Edit: for that matter, the 500kg total is similar to the 800lb raw bench, and in both cases it was thought of as an impossible barrier until one athlete proved it could be done, and right now there is someone right there to take it.

I love the story telling! Without it as context the video would mean nothing to anybody except a few weight lifting enthusiasts. Great job. To me he looks more like he considers this to be his destiny. He's giving it his all but without the stress weighing him down. In my mind that's essential to elite performance. If you get stuck in fight or flight you won't last. My theory is that this is why the best performance in any field often has a certain ease to it. Weight lifting might be an exception but I don't see any of the going crazy you sometimes see in deadlift videos. Anyways, fantastic job!

That Sinclair scale that he mentioned is so goofy. How could you say that Lasha isn’t the best to ever do it? By definition he is the best to ever do it ever, no human whose weightlifted has ever lifted as much as he has.
@WeightliftingHouse2 жыл бұрын
That's not the definition of the best weightlifter though because you have to take into account bodyweight. You couldn't say that Nathan Damron is better than Naim Suleymanogly because 'by definition' he lifts the most. Body weight is as important a factor to consider as weight lifted. I do actually agree with you that Lasha is the greatest ever, but it's not because he has lifted the most ever, he just happens to have done so.

If you're linking the case of having a six pack to the less civilised times of humankind....having a low body fat was common place back then. The lower the body fat,the faster the human. They had more power,could fight harder,could hunt better. Also to put it simply humans are visual creatures and a six pack is visually appealing. A pot belly is not(no disrespect). Lu Xiaojun,Shi Zhi Yong are both bringing eyes to Weightlifting not just because of their strength but also their aesthetics.
