Weihrauch hw97 TBT DROP IN KIT

Ive had 11 of the 97s and 77s since they came out, there a brilliantly engineered rifle, what I've done on a couple of my 97s and done for friends is lathed the inside of the silencer so it goes to the end of the barrel, then shorten the cocking arm the same, around 70mm.

This sound like exactly what Tim did at TBT tuning. How did you shorten the cocking arm?

@craigbrowne8563 l did my first one about 6 years ago, where the arm connects to the lever, there's a punch mark, 3mm drill, then it comes off, then l tapped and put a grub screw to secure.

My HW95K from brand new took well over 500 pellets to properly bed in. Also a good barrel clean. Great videos Shane

I.m 77 ex Armourer Navy! I am also a novice to airgunning! I notice that as the mainspring is compressed,it,s diameter increases.If the spring guide is a bit tight the spring will seize on it on firing! Also...The Spring can seize in the compression chamberif tight if OD of spring leaves too small clearance. I put a shim at back of Trigger to loose the gap between stock and trigger group! This stops stock screws loosening!...GB. My guns.

@@6lr6ak6 I have several springs for the 97 but I settled on just 16 ft-lbs for the best feeling and accuracy. The spring and guides come from Jim Maccari at Air Rifle Headquarters .

I did the same to my hw77k, same thing but different, it didn't settle down until after a couple of tins of pellets were put through it now it's brilliant, 😁👍

the difference between waiting to shoot and shooting straight away indicates the piston seal heating up and cooling down altering the friction via the seal expanding and contracting ,, its probably a bit tight and will run itself in , then the consistency will improve , great vid cheers for sharing

The cocking lever on my out the box 77k had made a burr in comptube and nicked the piston head I fitted a tbt kit straight away cleaned the burrs out of comp tube and changed the piston head and it's at 12 ft lbs with a 6fps spread over 10 shots what a transformation. Whats the rifle like now. Cheers 👍

Possibly a bit of diesling going on Shane. Degrease and lightly relube in the right places. Obviously check piston and breach seal too.

Got the TBT maxi pro kit in my hw97 too. Transforms the gun! I found it shoots sweeter without the short stroke as too much pre-load on standard spring. I am also running a custom seals air seal 👍🙂

My HW 99s fitted with a tbt kit is brilliant.only 5 fps spread over 25 shots using its favourite diet of AirArms diabolo field in .22cal. (5.52 mm).Tiny groups at 35 yards ,low recoil & no spring twang at all. When you find your guns fave pellets,stick with them is my advice.

Thanks for the reply , but the barrel loved the AA pellets , before the new drop in kit , and shoots bang on when the power is stable , but the odd shot for what ever reason is falling to 9.5 ft lbs from 11.2 and this in my opinion is going to reflect the grouping of the pellet but , I usually try what I have at hand , at the min I have 6 different brands and tried them all , but we will see in the future , thanks for your comment Shane

Oh and it was very consistent on the original weihrauch spring , with up to 9 FPS over ten shots

Hi Shane, on my hw97 I used the normal tbt kit, just the spring guide, top hat and bum-slide tbt, original 16j spring and it was basically the same but softer, in the sitting position, 25m makes groups of 14mm, jsb 8.44, 25m makes groups of 14mm, jsb 8.44, for these weapons it has to be a normal thing as you know,Shane experience a more comfortable shooting position,cheers.

Hi Shane you should have gone for a Welsh Willy kit far superior had 1 in my 97 it produced 11.8ft lb with a 7 fps spread over 25 shots

There seems to be a lot of choice of tuning kits out there , enough to get you scratching your head , as to what you choose , gonna go down the piston glided route next I think , possibly Paul short , or Mr Gibney ,, cheers for the comment Shane

@@shaneweightman hi Shane if your looking at maybe getting a better tune or kit for your hw97 you could talk too lyndon @ ARC tuning on 07947 230549 he,s a cracking bloke and he know his stuff especially springers and he's also very good friend with Steve pope @ v Mach tuning so you'll be in good hands and he'll point you in the right direction the ultimate kit for the hw97 is the v Mach v glide kit it's a master piece of engineering by Steve pope everything running on delrin BUT I'm not sure if Steve is still making them as there around the £250 mark but worth every penny if you speak with lyndon on the number I gave you above he'll definitely tell you if Steve still make those kits. all the best mate. Don’t worry to much about FPS spread unless u shoot at long ranges, I understand tho it’s very frustrating to see the spread, possibly some bad pellets. How tight was your piston seal in the comp tube?

im not sure how tight it was to be honnest , it seemed a tight unrestricted fit, but ive ordered some premium pellets individually sized and weighed, will shoot a few of those through the chrony and see what results i get now the gun has had around 420 shots through it, and make another video, thanks for your comment Shane

It sounds like you could have also mixed up your pellet weights! I have this same gun. It's brilliant if a bit heavy. The HW98 is my fave gun which I use for HFT. Looking to add a TBT short stroke extension to lessen the recoil.

The only genuine method of short stroking a spring piston air rifle is to fit an extended central piston rod. By fitting a piston extention results an initial very difficult cocking stroke.

I had similar inconsistencies with my later (2012) HW77, I put ten felt cleaning wad pellets through,first five I sprayed with car brake cleaner,that sorted it.

I use FALCON Accuracy plus pellets give them a try it'll be like a new gun. I wouldn't use anything else. I have tried all sorts and these are the one's for me.

If your fps spread is that much, I would consider getting a new spring. That lange fps range is not normal. In my hw97k with the original parts, I have a spread of max 7fps. I noticed that you hold pellets between your lips before loading them in the gun. Are you aware what led is an what it does to your body?

Tbt buddy but it has settled down nicely now , will do a video soon , the gun has been brilliant , of late since it’s had around 500 shots through it , very consistent in my mates chrony last wk , 6 FPS difference over 8 shots , shooting at 11.6 ft lb. ,, cheers Shane

Missing some of the key magic details that's tuners won't give over and just chucking some basic physics and engineering into the mix and lots of shooting and chrono work... looking forward to video mate.

Your groupings arnt too bad, I know what you mean though, all within an inch is preferable. I've got 99 and pretty pleased, liked the idea of one of these in the future but for twice the price, it's a bit disappointing. Power shouldn't fluctuate that much. Maybe worth the few quid more and go aa tx200. For nearly £500 tuning shouldn't be needed at all in my mind.

I had a HW97KT and could not get on with it, it was very inconsistent and not accurate, put a Tuning kit in it and still the same, I ended up getting rid of the damn thing and bought a 30 year old MK1 HW90 Gas Ram WOW what a amazing gun the HW90 Gas Ram is compared to the HW97KT, much more accurate and only 3 FPS spread over 10 shots on the chrono where as with the 97 the spread varied from 20 FPS spread to 50FPS! I am hitting targets at 70 meters consistently with the HW90 its a amazingly accurate break barrel air rifle.

Yes the spring comes in the kit , and the nylon guides are a good tight fit in the new spring but abit loose in the original , so used the provided new one cheers shane

I have two HW97k. One in. 177 , the other in .22. They both shoot 11.1-11.2 ft lb with single figure fps spread. They are as they left the factory. I use JSB exact in the .177 and JSB express in the .22. Both will group under a 5p at 35 yards. The problem with your rifle sounds like a faulty spring, as the power shouldn't change that much over time.

I was getting 5p groups with the HW95K using Air Arms, until I started putting JSB exact through the barrel. JSB were poor. After using the JSB the Air Arms were far less accurate and didn't group. I found they really don't like each other. I cleaned the barrel and the Air Arms accuracy returned. 5p groups at 18mtrs (59ft) It may be the same case with the barrel on your 97K mate.

I think that is very good shooting at 27 yards considering it a springer and not a great bench rest platform. I could not shoot my Diana Mod 34 or my Diana 359 mag any better back in the day. Glad I found your channel. I will add it to my list and I will be checking it out.

Yes buddy right next to the m69 , that runs from Coventry to Leicestershire, I usually turn the Audio on the camera nr the target down low , else it would be much worse , like a weird white noise , and I try my best to filter as much out in my editing software, It’s harder at gun clubs , cos people are talking loud , talking crap , sometimes swearing and then there’s music played at a couple , then you get strikes for copyright from KZbin, I sometimes have to ask my self if it’s worth the hassle , after editing for around at least 3 hrs every video , to make no money , it seems the only ones who really prosper are the gun shops , and gun manufacturers, if there guns get good reviews , and people want to buy them , but the end of my reviews won’t be that far away , I guess ,, cheers shane

If you watched the video , the gun was making a scraping sound on loading , so gave the impression it had a broken spring , hence the reason why I bought the drop in kit ,, however turns out it shot smooth and better than it did before ,, give my video a thumbs down and don’t watch any more , is my advice 🎉thanks shane 😂

i have all the origional parts in a box ,, and can put back to standard in 20 mins, first of all ,,not sure if you watched the complete video but my motto in life is ,, if it aint broke dont fix it,,,it was making a bad grating on cocking and leaving marks inside the breach, so i ordered the drop in kit, expecting a broken spring, but turns out it was rusty particals from a piston weight ,, washer,, but i havent altered or defaced the gun , and one day in the future
