I commend your imagination and effort to try the tubes. I think it was a worthy try. My thoughts are, 1 I am wondering if you tried moving them around to a different arrangement? 2 I think they would need to be like dash 20 in size to see any effect. Assuming there ever was one. But I like stuff like that. I think it's awesome you tried it.

Tube idea really Omazing! Do not ever be afraid to faiL!

This may be a little esoteric but when the pressure wave travels through those tubes it will alter the frequency of the wave due to the Helmholtz principle. The tubes themselves have a resonant frequency determined by their diameter and length so it would be very difficult to transfer any significant amount of wave energy from side to side but it is a very interesting concept. Something like the Duntov intake manifold of mythical lore of yore. Well done.

Eric, excellent video as always. Appreciate all your hard work and info sharing. How do you think the order of best to worst manifold would be changed on a larger, higher compression motor with better heads like a 13 to 1, 434ci with AFR 245's?

SShh Eric, if you tell them it's good, someone will buy them out and take it off the market! It's amazing how good things get taken off the Market because they lose the company money,. Like the old Weiand 8016 Stealth and the Holley 300-36 (Z-28 manifold) , the stealth is the best manifold from idle to 7200 , better than the Performer RPM too

It might be Mandela effect. But I seem to remember a torker manifold where's the carburetor was a little cockeyed. Granted it was probably about 35 years ago and I want to thank you it was an older manifold then

Sooooo....you were attempting to achieve the effect of 3rd pulse tuning, scavenging from one runner to another. Well you didn't lose power. What if you had ran the tube to the next in the firing order?????

The articles I saw said it beat the victor jr and bow tie but not by a lot and yep I bought one too,for $120 why not.I think I probably have it some where yet but how ever it performs I’ll be happy for what I paid.

Thanks for sharing. I had doubts on the tubes just because they're so small in diameter by comparison with the intake runner. Path of least resistance. Cool to see the results tho. The 2bbl tests will be cool to see also.

Thick runners help air stay attached. Look at jet airliners, the leading edge of the wing is thick for a reason.

When I looked at the manifold with the crossover pipes, it reminded me a little of boost bottles on two-strokes in the eighties. I disagree with your disappointment. I think you showed an interesting positive change considering the pipe diameters. If I was following along correctly it made more peak torque, and another little chunk up around 5700. If I was looking at this and had the time, I would be inclined to try the following improvements/disasters. Use solid alloy line, larger diameter, and angle the fitting towards the valve ( like an injector) my thinking is the lines you tried are fairly small in relation to the runner, limiting the total effect. You seem to be trapping a pressure pulse, so it makes sense to me that the line would want to be as rigid as possible to keep that pulse intact. The pressure pulse propagates from the valve, so in my head, it might make sense to angle the opening towards the pulse source in order to get the most energy? Very interesting 👌

Hey Eric, Tim here, SUPER cool vid......and i agree with "pycho slag" that it wud take LOTS of testing to find the correct diameter, and length of the tubes, to really show a difrence that u cud use.....but i LOVED the brain storm, w/o brain storming we'll never make progress, so, although didnt answer yer own query, i think it helps in understanding the dynamics happening inside our intakes.....GREAT stuff!!!!.....thanks fer yet another enjoyable EWR vid!!!!.....validates me wearin yer shirt every Sat!!....haha....PEACE to you sir!!

Gen 1 year drop devider....possibly for increased velocity? Keep runners more devided from it's niebor? Hose....don't belive their volume is big enough to effect each impulse. There is something about them since Smokey used it. Gasket match is typical for most home builders. As long as the intake port is smaller than the head port. The air colum isn't disturbed. It actual blocks some reversion. The plenum of the gen 3 is similar to the trick flow. With port cross section and orientation. Even with the line of sight....The air colum never travels in a straight line from plenum to the head.

My 2 cents is that it looks like V3 is for higher RPM for better flowing heads as well it does need blending on the top side entrance areas. V2 / V1 has higher & more narrow runners with velocity for small valves heads ( like Enforcer) bet when you port them ( heads & intakes ) they'll be even . But V3 will have the top end much bigger runners ( my opinion).... oh almost forgot the V1 / V2 have more of a downward flow runner as in the runner start very high & slopes down very nicely ( sort of gives the affect of the low floor heads @ entrance of intake ports ) V3 has less slope. Awesome video thanks sir 💪😎

Great info!! I currently run a Speedmaster intake on a big SBC. Looks like a copy of the hurricane.. Any insight if it is or isn't a copy.. Sure looks like it. It seems to work well but the fitment was terrible. I had to get extra thick gaskets so the ports would be close..keep the vids coming! Tony C..

I have the pontiac version of that intake "Professional Products Hurricane Intake Manifolds 56031" It seem to perform well, no dyno yet. But i got it cnc portmatched to my cnc ported edelbrock cylinderheads. When inspecting the intake runners at the flange side where the cnc machining was done, there where small black holes. Pressing on the black hole with a pick cracked it open and sand came pouring out! I had to press all port openings with a pick and expose all "sand-traps" then have someone weld it back up. I did not dare to put a lift plate on the intake to lift it in to the engine bay lol.

I fell into good luck by accident, I have 2 of the first designs, 1 I use a NOS Fogger and the other without. I liked the way my engine ran, and they were cheap to buy. I was going to sell them because I went to a 8-71 TBS Supercharger but not now. Actually I have 3 but one is on my 383 in my 67 C20. Thanks Eric!

I wonder if they made the 3rd gen Hurricane a little different to let it work better on a 350? Or, perhaps the plenum changes are like you mentioned, to make it work better with a 2 barrel carb? Who knows..

I think you had an interesting idea with the fittings on the manifold. I am curious to see that idea done differently. Some nitrous guys hide the lines under the manifold. Maybe a different manifold design would allow shorter lines to be used on your test idea. I wonder if harder material lines would transfer those pressure waves better and what the optimized diameter would be. I am impressed a "gain" appeared after using a few extra shop parts.

I'm gonna try one and just drill the holes to fit . Do you add injector bungs ? I found a spacer with injectors in them I can do but it may make it to tall for hood. If so I'd get bungs put in intake and port at same time

i think the runner pipe idea is cool but i think it wont pull that charge that distance. it may ad volume but its like a huge long runner in timing will be off... i think if u could drill the runner next to it so to have a gap/hole it could steal the flow of air charge thats from the other intake port because really if adjacent port steal the same intake wave from plenum running down the other runner get a air wave from next door port. ud think it would be later but

Would be interesting to play with the tubes on the dyno more, I wonder if since the tubes are longer than the tube end to the plenum if the pressure wave just isn’t making it to the opposite port, would be cool to have a map sensor in one of those tubes, also what if it’s time based, meaning that at low rpm or low throttle, the wave may have enough time to make it to the port? Really cool test in my opinion

That's very cool that all 3 hurricanes beater all the other manafold I mean I know it's just 1 test engine. But I mean a monafold that is about almost half to price or a half price off than other manafolds and it does that good that tells me there is nothing really wrong with them. What's funny everyone on Facebook and everywhere else even a buddy told me the hurricane are junk and don't seal and this and that. Well your testing is showing there doing really good. And just because it's made in China it doesn't mean the part is always junk. my dad did get another hurricane for my engine I got your book and for the rpm I am doing 6100rpm and above on 2 barrol and I will be running over 7000 so my dad picked it.

I’m sure you don’t want to revisit the previous test but it would be interesting to splash zone the shoddy port match and get it in line with the other manifolds just to see what happens if anything. Cool stuff, I need to order the book to support your efforts. Much cheaper than a dyno session and you did all the work! 🙂

You can do but you cannot do show and tell.. I had to stop halfway through. Get someone who does production to help you. Work from a script. The audio quality is poor. The constant talking about what you are going to talk and jumping back and forth in your thoughts wastes time,. The vertigo city camera swinging with split second shots of the graphs, and so on, did me in. Keep on doing and get help with the showing.
@WeingartnerRacing

I appreciate the criticism. If I had time to do better production or paid someone to do it I wouldn’t have time or money for testing. So I guess you are left with a choice perfect production of nothing or fair production of something valuable. You can always purchase the book to get better images.
