With over 50 years of travel around Scotland, Weir shows us some of his favourite parts of the country looking at their best. These selections take us from the North East to South East as he guides us through the beautiful landscapes rich in history and culture and talks to the local people about how these areas have changed. Starting in the stunning Glen Affric, moving to Moidart, the Ballochbuie forest, the island of Mingulay and Loch Tayside amongst others.

One of the Greatest Scots ever. his Bobble Hat and Red Red Nose. Even after many years after his last show they are wonderful to view again. A man who loved Scotland and Scotland loved him. Tom brought the outdoors to the scots through his television programmes. We all forget that Tom was a great mountaineer who climbed with the best before they had all the gear all over the globe. Its sad to see some arse put a dislike against a great man -- shame on him

Tom Weir was awesome. Even now 40 years after I watched him on TV I envy him and still watch him on KZbin. What an amazing man. and to the comment that someone made that they disliked the video, I say. get a life. live life and enjoy the the world Tom brought to all of us through his travels. long live Tom weir.

Watching Tom's TV show when I was young, looking at photos in his books on shelves in stores, and his absolute passion for the land of my birth and ancestors was an inspiration to me as a small boy. Once I went out into the hills wild-camping and making wild fires etc for the first time then I was hooked from the start. It all started watching this amazing auld guy.

Thank you, to whomever shared this video. I find it particularly interesting because my Great-Grandmother is/was a Weir. My father didn't know much about our Scot DNA. Learned quite a bit through Ancestry. When I was much younger, I became interested in standing stones & ley lines. This is long before many were talking about them outside of Scotland. I never really knew why I was so interested. It's now obvious that something in my DNA was triggered. Also, just read that Tom Weir was an Environmentalist. I also studied Environmentalism & worked as a Naturalist for many years offering programs. Definitely a unique coincidence of interests. Hope I can continue to find more of these programs. I have another channel Mickey Lee Bluebird which is my Nature channel. I'll sub from that channel too.

No that was not the case. I watched it as a youngster and there is no way my parents ever allowed me to stay up as late as Late Call. I remember Weir's Way being on around teatime. (Although there may have been initial episodes that were shown later).

Tom and his Sister Molly were brought up in Springburn, Glasgow N1 - a few decades before my early up-bringing at 42 Millarbank Street, circa mid- to late 1950s. During 1974, I asked Tom's advice, re the best and most honest way to try and achieve a job with the then Forestry Commission. (At that time, my Family and I resided at Wester Hailes, Edinburgh. Tom was biding at Gartocharn.) He soon wrote back, hand-written, advising me. I tried re the man's advice, but ended up being unsuccessful, and applying for a Railman's job, working with British Rail out of Crianlarich. That lasted from early September 1974 until mid-November 1974. With a young Family, plus my inadequacy to meet the strength and commitment required, we moved to Livingston, West Lothian, where we flourished - Family-wise and, to some extent, work-wise. To Tom and Molly. When men were men, and women were glad of it. Stay free. R 🍻 😎 🌠

Thanks for sharing a bit of your story, Rab, and I'm glad Livingston was good to you. Re. the Railway- track work was indeed very hard graft. My uncle worked on them nearly 35 years. At his peak he was a machine but the work took its toll and he was physically knackered by his mid 50s. He's had a happily long but sair retirement since. Look efter yersel, min.

Hope this may help, O. Stay free. Rab 🍻😎 *Màiri Mhòr nan Òran* [Credit: Wikipedia] Mary MacPherson (née MacDonald), known as Màiri Mhòr nan Òran (English: Great Mary of the Songs) or simply Màiri Mhòr (10 March 1821 - 7 November 1898), was a Scottish Gaelic poet from the Isle of Skye, whose work focused on the Highland Clearances and the land struggle. Although she could read her own work when written, she could not write it in Gaelic. She retained her songs and poems in her memory until others wrote them down for publication. She often referred to herself as Màiri Nighean Iain Bhàin (Mary, daughter of fair haired John), the name by which she would have been known in the Skye of her childhood. I love Tom Weir, (having a deep affinity as a Glasgow tenement boy myself), but I do not understand the 'bonnie prince charlie pish'. He neglects to mention all the ills that this foreigner beset on this land - he gave the english the 'right' to do whatever they wanted. "He never lost a battle" - not a battle but what about the 400+ he left to be butchered at Carlisle - just to save his arse? King over the water....king under the is far better.
